Cordyceps Arrow
Weapon (arrow), rare
On a hit, the arrow deals an extra 2d6 poison damage to its target and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be infected by the cordyceps fungal disease. A creature that succeeds on this save or is cured of the disease is immune to it for 1 month. Creatures with poison immunity are immune to this disease. A creature infected by this disease suffers the following effects:
Can’t regain hit points.
Must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw every 24 hours or take 2d6 poison damage. A creature that succeeds on this save twice in a row is cured of the disease.
If an infected creature is reduced to 0 hit points, it dies and becomes a zombie. In its zombified state, it is hostile to all creatures except for other cordyceps zombies, it is immune to exhaustion, it doesn’t need food, air, or water, it can’t speak or cast spells, and it has temporary hit points equal to the max hit points that it had in life. When these temporary hit points are gone, the zombie dies and releases a 10-foot-radius burst of spores. Each creature in this area must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be infected by this disease. Any creature killed by a cordyceps zombie rises 1 hour later in a zombified state. There is a 10% chance that an unbroken arrow retrieved from the body of a cordyceps zombie is a Cordyceps Arrow.
