The more I think about their decision to wear those glases, the more absurd it becomes. Staring at the sun during an eclipse causes less eye damage than staring at the sun on any other day, if they managed to keep their sight until this day they should be able to resist blinding themselves for another few minutes. You'd have to be a pretty huge astronomy fan to stop what you are doing and stare at the eclipse like hypnotized for several minutes in the middle of a war. And if you did that the fire nation soldiers would probably damage you more than the sun would. And just to prevent that they intentionally darken their vision at a time that they already have less light.

2025-10-12 21:05:36 +0000 UTCThe eclipse glasses are an old style of snow goggles used in real life to avoid snow blindness! If you look at an eclipse for too long without any eye protection, it can blind you, and those glasses should protect one's sight in theory. So, the invaders can still fight freely without worrying about any lasting eye damage from the eclipse.
