Episode 18 is my favorite episode of season 1. Not only because I think Rem is best girl, but I think the way Rem speaks about Subaru here is really beautiful and it really manages to help Subaru see what he really wanted and had to do and how he had to change to become a better person. I could write a whole essay on what I think about the talk between the two and why I love it, but it's good to see Subaru grow as a character here. He sees himself as a failure, a nobody. Someone who doesn't deserve anything. It's probably true to an extent, but in reality, it's just hard to see yourself in a good light. It's way easier to think what you are missing and can't do. But that doesn't mean that you don't have anything. The way Rem said everything made him finally understand what kind of person he is to Rem. Just like he said before to Rem "I don't know that Ram you're talking about" when she was talking about how great Ram was with her horn, this same sentence could be applied here. Rem doesn't know his past self. Rem only knows the Subaru she's seen and to her, this Subaru, even if it's not what he really is, is real to her. And that's why she loves her. That is why she thinks what she does. I've watched this season 8 times (now 9) and I don't think I never watched this episode without crying my eyes out. As ZombieGuy33 said, the author does release "what if" type stories every now and then and it shows an "alternative reality" where Rem accepts and they run away together. Maybe worth checking out once you're done with the show. As cruel as it might seem for Subaru to say "I love Emilia" at the end there, it is what Subaru really feels. Rem and Subaru both know that. As we know, him trying to run away with Rem was just him trying to run away from everything and wasn't because he actually loved her, like he loves Emilia at least. So him saying that he loves Emilia isn't really all that weird. It is very rude though. Rem best girl still though. Subaru himself can say that he doesn't have anything, but the very next episode we see him cleverly use his brains and information from past loops to his advantage and secure himself people to help him deal with his current predicament. On a side nyote, I really love how Felix speaks and how well it's translated in the subtitles. It's so funny and cute lol.

2025-09-24 08:03:24 +0000 UTCI love Rem Speech to Subaru It’s beautiful I know people were mad Subaru said I love Emilia part haha but honestly I never took it the wrong way when he said that It would be a disservice to Rem pouring her heart out to Subaru if he didn’t say it. Also there is something cool the author did He did a what if Subaru went with Rem has its own little story Sloth route The author does what ifs for Re:Zero every April 1 Subaru birthday. There’s a bunch of them only recommend them after finishing Re:Zero
