Behind the Scenes #13

When Wishes Come True had a pretty positive feedback from the community but it also definied a new milestone for me: it changed the way I do art. Starting from chapter 3 I tried to give the comic a new look: the way I drew hair, eyes, anatomy in general, the thickness of the lines, the shadows...

I was heavily inspired by the mangaka Itoh Sei, the author of Monster Collection, which I have already quoted to be the main inspiration for Diaper Quest. My mistake was to mimik a style that wasn't mine, but I really loved it so I began to do plenty of study on it and anatomy as well.

The early results were not so good but I was at least paying more attention to bodies and faces. It would still take some years for me to craft anything decent but this was a start and I'm glad I took that direction. I eventually stopped trying to copy/paste that artist and tried to build something from there.

I think that's how all great artist start. It's not copying it's a homage. And some may call it twerking. There's a lot of great examples of this. Pepsi and Coke, Go-bots and Transformers, Kellogs and General Mills, the list goes on.
