Weapon (pistol), artifact (requires attunement)
This weapon has only recently become an artifact. Its original owner, Cheylara, was a bounty hunter of legendary renown. Her prized firearm, a six-shot pistol, was transformed into its current form by Kheld'ir, a djinni whose bounty Cheylara intended on fulfilling. However, Kheld'ir bound themself to the weapon as part of the transformation, protecting themself and enabling Cheylara to pursue even greater bounties. But, as all power does, her newfound strength led Cheylara to ruin, and so the only person capable of turning in Kheld'ir's bounty was no longer a threat.
You gain a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. This brass pistol has a rotating cylinder with room for 6 bullets. Whenever you start your turn and have fewer than 6 bullets in the cylinder, the weapon magically replaces them. Furthermore, the weapon automatically loads the next bullet immediately after firing it. As a result, this weapon lacks the loading property.
Eagle-Eyed. While looking down the sight of this weapon, you can see clearly at up to three times the normal distance. In addition, you suffer none of the penalties of attacking at long range with this weapon, and you score a critical hit when you roll a 19 or 20 on an attack roll made with it.
Tracer Bullets. Whenever you hit a creature with this weapon, you magically know its distance and direction away from you for the next hour. For the duration, the creature can't benefit from being invisible and can't be hidden from you.
Quickdraw. You have advantage on the first attack roll you make with this weapon after rolling for initiative in a combat.
Unload. You can use an action to fire all six of the weapon's bullets in a single, rapid-fire burst. You must have a free hand to do so. Make an attack roll against a target within the weapon's range. On a hit, the target takes 6d4 piercing damage (adding your Dexterity modifier and the weapon's +3 bonus as normal). The target takes an extra 5 piercing damage whenever you roll three of the same number on the d4s. On a critical hit, you gain a +10 bonus to the damage roll, instead of rolling the attack's damage dice twice.
Wish. When found, the weapon has 1d3 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 of its charges to cast the wish spell from it. Once used, this property can’t be used again until the next dawn. The weapon loses this property, as well as its Sentience and Personality properties (as the djinni leaves the weapon), when the last charge is expended.
Random Properties. Kheld'ir, the Sixth Shot has the following random properties:
1 minor beneficial property
2 major detrimental properties
Sentience. Kheld'ir, the Sixth Shot is a chaotic good weapon with an Intelligence of 15, a Wisdom of 16, and a Charisma of 20. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet.
The weapon communicates telepathically with its wielder and can speak, read, and understand Common and Primordial (Auran). It only speaks when it sees an opportunity for you to use its Wish property.
Personality. The pistol is inhabited by the very djinni, Kheld'ir, that created it. It is patiently waiting for the day when it's freed from the weapon. When it encourages someone to use its Wish property, it focuses on the gravity of the sitatuation and impossibility of the task, often relying on phrases such as, "This would be impossible for any mortal, no matter their skill." In their mind, they believe that either such a phrase will encourage someone to use a Wish, or goad them into a truly impossible scenario and force them to use a Wish to save their life. Kheld'ir is generally unbothered with the passing of time, as mortal lifespans are comparatively short, and they aren't overwhelmingly eager to return to the world at large.
Destroying the Pistol. The only way to destroy the pistol is by using a wish spell, or by slaying Kheld'ir with the weapon itself once freed.
“You spared me the chains, mortal. So I give onto your iron a fierce hunger, and your lead an unquenchable thirst. You have my gratitude, hunter. Use it well.”
