Mirrorlight Carver

Weapon (dagger), rare

You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon, which deals slashing damage instead of piercing damage. The blade of the dagger has a crystalline edge, which reflects light in mysterious ways. While holding it, you can use a bonus action to magically summon an illusory duplicate of yourself in an unoccupied space that you can see within 30 feet of you. The next time you make an attack with the dagger before the end of your next turn, the duplicate also makes an attack against a target you choose within 5 feet of it using the same attack roll as you. If the duplicate's attack hits, that target takes 2d10 force damage. The duplicate disappears after you make an attack with the dagger or at the end of your next turn (whichever comes first), and you then gain the benefits of the mirror image spell for 1 minute. Once the dagger has been used to make a duplicate, it can't do so again until the next dawn.

One of me,
But two you see.
A flash of pain,
And then I'm three!

RAW, no, but I fully endorse GMs saying it would. If you like that mechanic, the Rogue subclass from the Mirrorlight Caverns setting does exactly that!

The Griffon's Saddlebag

Since the duplicate is actually attacking the target with the wielder, would that qualify as an ally for purposes of making a sneak attack?

Very nice 👍. I've always been a fan of weapons that create duplicates, whether illusionary or otherwise.
