Wondrous item, uncommon
This short key doesn't unlock any doors or latches—it breaks them instead. The head of the key resembles an icon of a clenched fist. When you use an action to insert and turn this key in a lock, make a Strength check for the key, using a +10 bonus instead of your normal bonus. If the result is enough to break the door or lock (as if you had smashed it), the door or lock loudly flies open, creating a sound that can be heard up to 100 feet away.
Each time you use the key, roll a d4. On a 1, the key is destroyed.
When they'd stolen from the barbarian—taking only a sickly, scraggly blink dog pup—the bandits hadn't counted on his determination. The theft has been weeks ago, yet still he pursued them, only minutes behind as they finally slammed the gate of their fortified lair.
The barbarian's colossal hammer rang against fortified steel, the dwarven gate sealed by unquestionable mastery of metalwork and lockcraft. The bandits first cowered, them slowly relaxed as the gate held for a minute, then ten, then an hour. Then silence.
Until the sound of unpracticed hands fumbled at the lock. He didn't seriously think he could—
…crrraABOOM!
And the door exploded open.
