Intro Story

The scout crept forward, inching up over a small rise of stone to view the stony canyon floor ahead.

A  faint wind whistled through the rocks up ahead, a few trail weeds  rolling lazily across the stone in search of greener pastures. The sheer  walls of the canyon were bare of vegetation and fragile to the touch,  discouraging climbing. This was the fastest and most direct route to the  other side of the canyon labyrinth, and the most dangerous.

The  shade cast by the towering canyon walls covered the rocks, lingering in  cracks and crevices and threatening to hide aggressive creatures.  Larger caves were not uncommon, and the mouth of one was visible along  the western wall up ahead.

"What's  the hold up, damnit! We're roasting in this sun. Let us at least move  into the shade of the canyon, if we're going to sit a while.", said a  high-pitched voice slathered in privilege.

The scout tilted her head slightly, but did not take her eyes off the cave mouth, "That's what it wants us to do."

"What  WHAT wants us to do!? It's a long, empty corridor of rocks and  dirt...and, more importantly, SHADE, and I can't possibly fathom what or  who we would be waiti...", the voice was cut off suddenly by a guttural  road that echoed off the stone walls and shook the tiny pebbles  gathered against the wall.

A  large plume of dust exhaled from the cave mouth, and the silhouette of a  large creature's snout emerged for a moment, sniffing the air before  retreating into the darkness of the cave.

The  scout smirked and cast a backward glance toward the silk-dressed  merchant standing behind her, "Still want some of that shade?"

The  merchant was pale and slack-jawed, his lower lip trembling slightly as  he stammered a response, "N-n-no, I, well...I mean...I do have an...an  umbrella here somewhere."

The  scout glanced past the merchant toward a small group of mercenaries  standing near a wagon heavily laden with trade goods and flashed five  fingers then closed her hand in a fist and pointed toward the canyon  path. Several members of the group nodded and began unstrapping hear  from horses and donning shields.

The  merchant unfurled an umbrella and blinked as five armed mercenaries  strode past him toward the scout, calling after them, "What are you  doing?"

The scout rose form her position and unslung a long, curved bow, "What you paid us to do."

Nodding  once, the merchant adjusted the shade of his umbrella and said, "Yes,  well...make sure whatever it is knows you were very expensive!"

This  large canyon path provides a large amount of space for many random  encounters, from simple travel through the canyon, to exploring a  known lair to arriving upon a small outpost dug into the pass.

Several small caves line the walls, allowing you to attach other maps, or to use  them as entrances/exits for unseen creatures, large and small.

I’ve also included a 40 x 40 lair map that can be used as a drop-token for the large cave entrance.

The map pack comes with a desert and grassy variant, while higher tiers will also see a winter variant and underdark variant.

Hope you enjoy it!
