◉ Early life

Xochimazatl's father, Cipactli (1426~1479), was a trusted general by Motecuhzoma Ilhuicamina (re. 1440~1469). He spent his whole life on the battlefield expanding the empire. His mother, Matlalxochitl (1446~1471) was a noblewoman from Chalco who married Cipactli after the conquest of Chalco in 1465. It was a politically arranged marriage. Despite not being a first wife, Cipactli favored Matlalxochitl. She bore him a son, Xochimazatl, in 1468. Cipactli doted on this late child.

However, Matlalxochitl became frail after the birth. She died in 1471, when Xochimazatl was just three years old. To make matters worse, during the war against Purepecha in 1479, the Mexica army suffered its worst defeat in history. His father, Cipactli was killed in battlefield. At the time, Xochimazatl was 11 years old. He was orphaned at such a young age.

Cipactli's older brother and Xochimazatl's uncle, Coyochimalli (1420~), decided to adopt and raise his young nephew. Coyochimalli is the high priest (quetzalcoatl) of the Temple of Huehuecoyotl in Tenochtitlan. Even though Mexica preists do not marry, he adopted Xochimazatl because of the religious importance surrounding his birth.

◉ Birthday

Xochimazatl was born on January 23rd, 1468. In the Mexica calendar, it's the Year of 1-Reed [Acatl], Month of Tititl, Week of Flower [Xochitl], Day of 5-Lizard [Cuetzpalin]. The dates of the Mexica calendar are a combination of numbers and symbols. It determines the deity that presides over each day, and the potential fate of the person born on that day.

The 'week' of Xochimazatl's birthday corresponds to the symbol of Xochitl, 'flower'. In the Mexica calendar, 13-day period (so-called 'trecana') is similar to the 'week' of the modern calendar. Each 'week' is named after the symbol that occurs on the first day of the period. The week that starts with the day 1-Flower [Xochitl] is ruled by the trickster coyote god, Huehuecoyotl. People born during this week are influenced by Huehuecoyotl to be positive, competent, and fond of singing and pleasure. They are likely to become entertainers, such as singers and storytellers, or expert craftsmen. They could also use their talents to accumulate a lot of wealth. This week is neither good nor bad, so your own will and actions are important in shaping your fate. According to the Book 4 of the Florentine Codex: "It was said that this sign was indifferent; that is to say, a little bad and a little good (...)"

Xochimazatl's birthday corresponds to the sign 'Cuetzpalin', or 'lizard'. Huehuecoyotl also preside over this day. People born on this auspicious day are fortunate and can easily gain wealth. The lizard is a phallic symbol in Mexica worldview, and Huehuecoyotl is also the patron of uninhibited sexuality. So people born on this day will have strong virility and libido. However, as is typical of the trickster god, there is a risk that your fortunes could change drastically. Therefore, it's important to always practice moderation and honour the gods.

Knowing that Xochimazatl's birth date was strongly associated with Huehuecoyotl, Coyochimalli adopted his nephew to ensure that he would be protected by his patron god.

◉ Career

Entering calmecac at the age of eight, Xochimazatl showed great talent in music, art, rhetoric, and history. At the age of 15, he began the mandatory military training. After his first campaign in the following year, he quickly rose through the ranks by capturing multiple prisoners. He had taken four prisoners and attained the rank of tequihua by the age of 21, making him a promising young warrior. He is especially close to the current tlatoani, Ahuitzotl, whom he has served since the inaugural war. In 1490, when Xochimazatl was only 22 years old, Ahuitzotl bestowed him the title of tecuhtli (lord). This unusual appointment sparked envy amongst the royal court, but Xochimazatl's modest personality kept him from making many enemies. Currently (1491) he is living in a mansion in the district of Moyotlan, and as a tecuhtli he owns a land in several locations throughout the Valley of Mexico. His current military title is Mexihcatl Tequihuah.

◉ Personal Life

Xochimazatl is a naturally cheerful, playful, intelligent, and astute. He has a large social circle because he enjoys to hang around with fellow aristocrats. However, he is also cautious and reserved, owing to his strict father and religious uncle. His military prowess has led many to consider him a trustworthy man with a promising future. But that is only a small part of who he is.

His favorite hobbies are playing music, singing, poetry, and reading. At home, he prefers these activities rather than militarical, physical exercise. He is envious of his acquaintances who work as court craftsmen or scribes, and he is uninterested in the political advantages that come with being a high official. He is, however, very interested in financial gain, and has amassed considerable wealth through his estates and trading business. While many hereditary elites are jealous of pochteca (professional merchant)'s wealth, Xochimazatl actively works with them. This pragmatic nature suited him well with the emperor Ahuitzotl, and it led to a foundation for his rise to power.

Xochimazatl is particularly fascinated by exotic cultures, and enjoys imported food, jewellery, and fancy clothing. So he sponsors the merchant caravans to maintain good relations with them. When Xochimazatl goes on campaigns, he is interested not only in military victories, but also in local customs and affairs. He is reputed to be skilled at post-conquest policy and tribute negotiations. Ahuitzotl is considering to train him as a professional diplomat and dispatching him as an envoy wherever he is needed.

Because of the influence of Huehuecoyotl, Xochimazatl has a high sex drive and virility, and very seductive. He also have sex with both men and women. Also he refuses to marry and keeps putting it off, preferring the uninhibited sexual relations.

Below is the timeline of Xochimazatl's life with Mexica history.
