Occasionally I come across incredible antique and vintage feather boas while I’m in the road. So, as you can imagine, after 14 years working with American Pickers, hunting for treasures across this great country, I have curated quite a collection of used, vintage and antique, ostrich feather, turkey, feather, boas. Some specifically for Burlesque, others for luxury wear,. Throughout time Ostrich feather has been harvested to create the illusion of movement in decor and costuming. In fact the Edwardian era ushered in a craze for ostrich feather boas. This craze lasted into the 1930’s. And folks still love the aesthetic today.
These boas were worn much like a scarf around the neck for stylish warmth or more provocatively on stage. Today different types of boas can be found from ostrich feather to vegan. I love the idea of vegan Boas because harvesting ostrich feathers is not nearly as humane as we think it is. Personally, I will not be purchasing any more ostrich feathers, unless they are used or vintage but fortunately there are plenty of used and Vintage ostrich feather items out there and so many creative vegan options as well. This jellyfish style ostrich feather boa is one of my personal creations that I’m working with as a prop for an upcoming burlesque routine. We shot a set for my spicy sites today… and since I’m editing, I thought I would share a sneak peek. #strippinghistory #roaddogdiaries
