Yet another reminder in the last few days that healing is not linear. I know I keep jumping ahead of myself, but I want to be well again so badly! I’m definitely keeping more busy than I have so far since my surgery, I’m able to expend more energy and do more. Definitely thankful for this. Loving the sunshine and we have had electricity since the day I landed! Can’t say the same for water, however, we do have backstock of water, so we are OK there. The water is still kind of in and out but I’m extremely thankful for the electricity.
Im thankful for just being alive and able to complain but I’m ready to be all the way well. I’m discouraged by the small setbacks and how long it’s taking my body to recover. I’m doing great, don’t get me wrong! I’m not in any danger zone, I’m feeling better than I have so far. I’m just ready to have my life back. It’s true that patience is a virtue, so I’m really trying to rely on my patience and take it moment by moment, and on the good days take it day by day. I was able to do so much the day this photo was taken, yesterday. I went to the beach in the morning and cleaned and organized my house after that. I was so looking forward to joining friends to see a local band that we love but unfortunately was struck with some pain and cramping that kept me in bed. I’m thankful that I don’t have this pain and cramping all the time, like I did before, but it’s extremely frustrating when it does hit. All I can do at that point is lay down and rest. And I am not good at that! I like to go go go go all the time. I know I keep repeating myself, but this entire situation has reminded me how important it is to stop, self-care, regroup, refresh and proceed when my tank is full again.
We spent yesterday exploring around Isabella going to middles beach, which is one of our favorite places on the island and hitting up one of our favorite beach side restaurants in Playa Jobos. It’s an outdoor spot with an ocean view.
As I stated, last night, I cleaned and organized my house before climbing into bed. We woke up this morning and took a 2 mile walk along the ocean in Aguada, and went to one of our favorite pork restaurants in the mountains. Also a really beautiful outdoor spot with an insane view! Now I’m just winding down and drinking some broth, it seems to help whatever is ailing me. It’s not just store-bought broth, however.
I do start with a ton of water, picked chicken carcass, fresh diced ginger, fresh diced turmeric, celery, carrots, oregano, tons of fresh garlic, and anything else in my refrigerator that reduces inflammation. I noticed that if I go for a couple days and don’t drink this several times a day, I feel terrible! I’m pretty sure that’s why I’ve been feeling so rough physically the last few days on top of probably over exerting myself because I’m excited to be home.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not on a liquid diet any longer, but I’m keeping my ritual of supplementing all of my meals with a large cup of broth as often as possible. Also Activa two times a day, lots of coconut oatmeal, really trying to stay away from sugary or fried foods , because they just ruin me. I can have cocktails so I’ve been drinking a little bit of gin every once in a while. But I keep reminding myself that it is OK to rest, in fact, it’s essential to rest, even if I’m really bad at it. it’s important for me to know my limitations, but goddamn I can’t wait to get back out there again and raise hell!
