Some years back I purchased this costume, except for the head dress, that I made. The shoes I purchased from Pollys of California which is an incredibly interesting company that’s been around for quite a while. Anyhow, I’ve been wanting to have this purple costume remade for years! Years! Part of the issue with this costume is that when I purchased it, it looked beautiful however, the designer used glue and a lot of it, to adhere the gemstones to the costume. There was so much glue used that even though the glue is now dry, it’s sticks to everything. It’s a costume I have to be extremely careful with. If I switch costumes during the show, I have to make sure that this costume gets hung up appropriately as soon as I take it off. The glue sticks to the feathers on my boa and the feathers on my fan as well while I’m dancing. It’s the weirdest thing… I’ve never bought anything else from this company since because I’ve had such an issue with the problematic overspill of glue onto the costume. I love the look of it, the fit was beautiful but I didn’t know what to do with the frustrating portion, the glue sticking to everything even after it had dried. It’s really a small problem in the grand scheme of things but over the years it just irritated me so much because the cost of the costume was exorbitant for the quality considering the excess glue issue, every time I wear the costume, I would have to make sure that nothing was sticking to my costume, especially the panties. I would pick up random objects if I leaned up against a table, the tablecloth would stick to the costume, it got to the point where it was just driving me crazy and I ended up not wearing the costume very often and then eventually not at all. Through Covid I realized it’s time to pass this costume along. It has so much life left in it, however after all these years it’s time for me to upgrade. Eventually ended up gluing more rhinestones to the panties to cover up the excess glue, (the panties and gauntlets were the most problematic part and purchased from two separate designers nonetheless. Both of them having issues with problematic glue. The portions that I glued myself, we’re fine, no problems, no stickiness, no headache or hassle, but I used East 6000. They obviously used a different glue and far too much of it) that did help quite a bit. But I still decided to go ahead and pass the costume along and have a new purple costume created by another Costumer. That is in the process of happening right now. But I realize that this costume could make a beautiful gift for one of the performers that I’m working with currently. So eventually I passed along this gorgeous purple costume and ostrich feather boa and ostrich feather Burlesque Fans to my dear friend and fan dancing student, Menesis. Only after fixing as much of the glue problem as possible.
Her style of dance suits the costume perfectly and I love watching her enjoy all the details💗
