I’ve been holding back on teaching burlesque on this forum for a few reasons. Reason number one is insecurity, feeling like it would be perceived as cringy, fear that my gifts will not be enough to be perceived as relevant to the cyber world. Fear that since I’m not picking the general population won’t give a fuck. Fear that I’m not teaching lessons the way “others” think I should.
I have to be honest, sometimes I need to take a break from the world of Vintage and History because often times when I’m speaking about sex work history, Burlesque history, striptease history it is a heavy weight. History being so problematic at times can sit like a brick in my stomach. Sometimes I need a little break to refresh my perspective.
So, I’m challenging myself. I would like to create content for performers to use in their daily lives and acts. Content to help inspire people to movement. So my question is this, how many of you are performers, interested in performing, interested in learning Burlesque tricks and tips, interested in truly seeing behind the scenes of this type of performance art regardless of the association with Vintage?
