Happy Mother’s Day Momma Sue Colby💗 you are my shero. You sacrificed everything for us and still loved us through the years that we thought you were the villain. You protected us with all you had and allowed us to make mistakes. I watched you pull through the good days and the bad. I watched you laugh through the bullshit and try to keep our attention on the positive when it was all too much. You are the real MVP! I know many find this day especially traumatic. So, to those who grew up with complicated relationships with their mothers, no mothers or unfit mothers. Many want to be mothers and can’t, while others don’t want to be mothers and are subject to laws that don’t give them the bodily autonomy to make that choice, so please take time today to think on all that you have accomplished with or without a being or having a Momma. Many of you have lost your dear mothers so if you have a mother figure in your life today that you would like to thank, please do, while you can. 💗
Of course I honor my grandmothers today too. My Grandma Rose, my mom’s mom, is the one with the dark hair and the black v-neck dress. My Grandma Mary, my dad’s mom, is the one in the black and white photo. They were both such strong women who raised their young families on their own after their husbands died. My parents both lost their fathers in their late childhood/early adolescence and had to help their mothers in every way they could. My Grandma Mary kept the family business going and operated Colby Photography all on her own. These beautiful strong women are why I am who I am today.
