Occupying Space
Added 2022-05-06 02:43:51 +0000 UTCIt’s not lost on me that my art is being censored on social media platforms right now while the censure and oppression of women and reproductive rights is amping up. Correlation is not causation, but it does feel a bit on the nose.
I feel as if the attitude is shifting, or has shifted, or never changed at all but it does feel like we’re regressing as a society. The very things that we view as basic rights are being lobbed off at every turn, like a vestigial tail of a bygone era. Sick days!? Ha! Let’s hope it’s nothing serious and you’re able to bounce back right away. Otherwise you’ll have to rely on tour coworkers gifting you their PTO or just going without. Or worse, you’ll have to give up your shift and make no money because PTO doesn’t exist in your workplace. Or maybe you just have to go work through it because you have no other choice.
You’d like to have the autonomy over your own body? You want make decisions about your own future??? No I don’t think so. Just try and we’ll make sure you’re prosecuted to the highest extent of the law.
Want to occupy space in a way that expresses your love and appreciation for your own body? Absolutely the fuck not. Your body will be censored and used to condemn you.
The war on bodies, women’s bodies, bodies with uteruses, rages on. But so do I. So I will continue to occupy space and claim dominion over my own corporeal form. I urge you to do the same.

We’re regressing because the fundamental concept of separation between Church and State isn’t being respected. There are men and women out there who are, unfortunately, in positions of power and feel so threatened by the secularization of society that they want to keep your average citizen uneducated and impose their religious views on society to the detriment of society. The dumbing down of the U.S. has been happening for a while, but it really took a nosedive in 2016 and it’s getting worse. If Roe v. Wade does get overturned, grab some popcorn and sit back and wait for the first controversy when a high profile hypocritical anti-abortion Conservative gets caught trying to obtain one for the mistress he’s knocked up.

2022-05-06 05:01:34 +0000 UTCI grew up with mom after a divorce when I was young. I saw how hard it was for her to bring up 3 kids. I didn't appreciate the effort until I was older, but I did hear about her struggles later in her life. I learned women have to be twice as strong to still be half as appreciated. It gave me a wonderful outlook on the unfairness society puts on women. Men objectify women at every turn. But a strong woman expressing her own sexuality is often put down and censored. Keep your beliefs strong and believe in yourself. Male controlled society may never evolve but you can overcome and conquer.....stay human.
