So I got this incredible new, old, 1957 “cabaret” magazine and was pleasantly surprised to run into some old photos of Tura Satana, performing at the Globe in Atlantic City.
The first two photographs are of her in 1957 at the Golbe theater in Atlantic City that I had never seen before. As a matter of fact, I don’t run across a whole lot of her early Burlesque work. and the last two photographs are the poster covers for faster pussycat! Kill! Kill!
Tura Satana was a dark haired vivacious vixen, a well known Japanese American actress, and exotic dancer. She boasted 13 film and television credits.
some of her work includes the exploitation film (I hate that descriptor) “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!”, and the scifi flick “The Astro-Zombies”.
Tura Satana was born Tura Luna Pascual Yamaguchi, July 10, 1938, in Hokkaido, Japan. She lived a full and exciting life until her death in February 4, 2011 in Reno, Nevada.
Here’s a funny little story, my fiancé, Jeremy was responsible for Tura Satana later in life when she would come in to Chicago to perform or sign autographs. In fact, she developed quite a crush on him and wrote him some very interesting love letters in her older years. When I talk about it, it always makes him blush but I’m sure he cherishes them to this day.
Here’s a great article about the martial arts legacy of Tura Satana.
