Good afternoon everybody, part of the reason I’ve been silent lately is because I have been caring for my cat Burton and helping her through an amputation. Just over a month ago she dislocated her leg and the vet out here recommended we amputate. It was an incredibly hard decision to come to but her quality of life depended on her having the leg removed. It was a really bad dislocation and it likely would not have healed correctly and would have been very painful for her had we not done it. Nothing in the world could have prepared me for what came next. Unfortunately the stitches in her leg were too far apart so it continuously tore open and we ended up having to superglue the entire amputation closed because the vet was on vacation and there were no other vets available because there are not very many vets on the island. The ones that are here often times have limited resources and are overworked and underpaid. The vet that we went to does a lot of work for free for animals in need, this is no shade to the vet. They did what they could in an emergency situation and try their best. That said it’s been brutal. I just wanted to give you an update and let you know that she is starting to feel better, she’s a lot more cuddly than she ever was before. I noticed her starting to get her personality back now. There was a little while there were I was afraid she wouldn’t make it because it looked so bad but now it seems like she’s on the mend and I could not be more thankful. Anyhow she makes a really cute little tripod, I’m excited for her hair to grow back in because she has such a beautiful coat. We’re just thankful she still with us as we recently lost Clemente. I haven’t mentioned any of this because I was hoping that Clemente would come back and I wanted to make sure Burton survived the surgery and it was really hard for me to talk about until now without crying. I’m still crying. But at least now they are tears of thankfulness and not tears of worry. Anyhow, I will make sure to update you more now that I know that she’s going to be OK and I just want you to know that I appreciate all of you. Have you ever had this happen to one of your animals? How did you handle it?💗💗💗
