after the storm

Enjoying the calm and coffee at one of my favorite spots in Rincon, “cafe 413”.

We survived the deluge of the past couple of days.

We had a little stressful patch when the water flooded into my burlesque costume closet through the sides of the air conditioning window unit. It soaked 2 sets of feather fans, my feather green headdress and my Lynne O’NEIL original poster. Fortunately, I was able to dry everything with a blow dryer after power came back on. Thank the Gods it didn’t get into my documentation bins. That would have been the most tragic as this is where all my costume history lives.

I did get some footage but honestly, I felt very introverted while the storm was raging. I had such a torrent of emotions I just stayed medicated. Not from fear but from exhaustion.

Honestly all I could do was sleep or watch the storm. My mind was totally preoccupied.

It was incredible to pass the storm with my family though, save for my son who is still back in the states in Iowa. I wish he lived the Caribbean. It would be so cool to have him here.

Memphis and Oliver were so great and supportive and Jeremy was my rock like always. I am blessed beyond measure and so so thankful.

Today I will check on my Batey Girls in the DR.

The DR and Bahamas are in my thoughts today as they are getting hit now or soon. It’s not the wind as much as the flooding that get you with this one. Mudslides, flooding, electrocution, etc... I’m just learning about tropical weather patterns so this is all pretty new to me still.

Lots of storms down the line from Africa whipping up so let’s send out good energy and hope for the best.

I leave to film in the States mid to late August. I hate to think of leaving my family during Hurricane season.

Sadly our town is still looking for one woman who went missing. As i understand it, she was trying to cross the street where it was particularly dangerous from the rush of flooding water. I hoping she is found alive and well. Please send your prayers if God Lives in your neighborhood, I’ll keep sending my magic and my smoke signals.

I love you.

In a town this small one person missing is certainly felt. Even if you do t know them. It’s unsettling

Glad you all are safe Danielle & prayers for the woman missing <3

Glad you came through the storm relatively unscathed, Danielle. Some of the footage shown on the news was scary and they said that more than 200,000 people were without electricity. I hope this was the worst the hurricane season has in store for you and yours!

Bins are the best. My room is stocked with waterproof bins but I was using my fans and thought they were safe where they were. My mistake big time! Normally I keto my fans broken down in water resistant hard cover rifle cases. The other items are posters so they have to stay upright and tight and were stored in plastic covered cardboard and that was a bad idea.... that cardboard just sucked up the water. It’s so much trial and error out here but it’s worth it💗

Before you leave get some waterproof bins for your stuff!

Glad y'all are OK aside from the wetness. Hope your girls in DR are OK as well. It's supposed to be a wet week next week for me as it creeps up the East Coast.

I'm so happy you all are ok
