What you are looking at right now is a basic shadow dance. There are many ways to do a shadow dance, this is one of mine. The point of a shadow dance is to create the illusion of nudity without giving up the ghost. To highlight the curves of your form without having to bare everything through your entire routine. Shadow dances can be modest or a bit more sultry, it just depends on the performer. There is really no one way that’s right. I suggest purchasing or finding a sheer fabric that catches the light beautifully. You will need strong back lighting, it’s preferable to be almost nude underneath the sheer fabric. The whole point is to tease your audience with subtle and sensual peaks of flesh. It is an aloof dance much like fan dancing. The key truly is allowing A flash of excitement and making the audience work for it. They have to keep their eye on you and the sheer fabric to reap the benefit of those naked peek a boo moments.

While performing a shadow dance, so much of you is hidden that it’s important the audience can see your face. It’s important you maintain eye contact and encourage them to keep watching and keep teasing until the moment is right for your reveal. If you are a performer who experiences stage fright, you don’t have to look in peoples eyes. There’s a great trick that I was taught by queen of Burlesque Lou Lou Dvil, she told me to look at the exit sign at the back of the room or look at someone’s hairline instead of their eyes. There are all kinds of ways to fake Eye contact with an audience however I love eye contact! I love those intense moments. I cherish them! Whether you are maintaining eye contact or whether you are staring at the exit sign, keep your head up, tits out, posture correct and slay!
