You made a really good point about Buffy doing a watcher's job tbh. Like. She's still slaying. She got Giles back on the Water's council as her official watcher. Slayers don't age out of needing a Watcher to do the research work and point her in the right direction, demon-wise. They should have at least sent her a new watcher because it's an official role. Giles wasn't just there was a pseudo-dad and ex-watcher anymore. He actually had a job he was being paid for. Of course the actor went away so they had to write him off, but it's still a good point LOL

Regular income, perfect cover & she would have been such a good cop that awards for bravery & promotions would surely have been a regular thing. It is however completely ridiculous that the Slayer doesn't receive a salary from the council. I guess they want to enforce a dependency on the watcher by paying them instead. Worth noting there are female watchers, before anyone starts throwing around the "M" word... oh wait, too late... It's not the council's fault that Slayer's are girls. As many you know, we'll get to that in time.

2023-02-03 05:46:06 +0000 UTCManny asking Buffy why she wanted to work there reminds me of my own experience. When I was like 18 I applied for a position at a local grocery store. The manager doing my interview didn't like my answer that I, you know, wanted a job and have an income; and even told me she wasn't going to hire me because of something along the lines of, I didn't have a vision for my future or some such bullshit. About 5, maybe 10 years later, I applied for a different job there; completely different department. The manager for that department was sick, so who does my interview, but the same fucking woman as last time. I think I screwed up some sort of aptitude test, but she also felt the need to bring up the last interview, even though it had been years; and comment that I still didn't have career plans or whatever. 🙄
