From what I understand, labor can vary quite a bit, and it's not uncommon for second deliveries to go much faster. This actually turned out to be the case for my sister with her second child. When all was said and done, everything went so quickly there wasn't time for her to get epidermal, as it was already time to start pushing; and ended up having a natural childbirth, at the hospital. She was in labor all told maybe a few hours.
