Angel 2x12 - full reaction

I think what's also important is that growth journey started thanks to Buffy and carries her middle name too.

Phoenix Dawn

Plus I get such a kick out of Merl 😆

I always get a little worried when reactors don't pick up right away on who Anne is. In all fairness it's not exactly ever high-key made explicit and for a first time watch-through it's not really unreasonable to miss it entirely. So having said that, that reaction was absolutely completely one hundred percent worth the short wait😆 As far as the episode, I could pick nits about Angel's motivations for setting the whole thing up being kinda weak, just to fuck with Wolfram & Hart and make them look bad. Fine. Whatever. It is what it is. But watching him go about is just fun as hell. The whole episode is fun as hell. The western theme and how that overlaps with Boone's persona and stories as well the very gunfight-esque vibes of the stand off for the money. The whole Anne storyline. The gang bonding amongst themselves. An appearance by Scary Threatening Angel. Just the general tension and conflict. Yes the fuck please, give me all of it. It just fits really well into the arc, giving us a look at how the group is doing apart from Angel as well the really weird, grey, ambiguous pace that he's in right now. The whole thing is just such a fucking rollercoaster and I love it. In fact I'm sure y'all are probably already sick of me preaching about how much I love this part of this show, and it's all subjective of course, but man in my humble opinion ever since To Shanshu in LA there just haven't been any really weak episodes and tonne of bangers. I'm not sure this quite qualifies as a banger but there's so much that I love about it.

I love seeing Anne again. First of all she represents the fact that the Buffyverse is a living world, with its people having their own lives separate from our protagonists. But more importantly, she became an amazing woman. At the end of episode Anne she said she wasn't good at taking care of herself. But now we see she's not only doing that, but even taking care of others who need help. And all that growth took place without the audience needing to watch it. But we do get to see _some_ important bits. In episode Anne she took a first step to standing up for herself by pushing the demon down. At the end of this episode she sees the blood on the money and says "it'll wash", signaling that she's willing to go far in order to help the kids in her shelter. "I've seen a 14 year old girl sitting in her own blood after a rough trick and dozens of people just walking right by so no, vampires, demons, even lawyers pretty much don't impress me." That is such a powerful image: Anne has seen worse than demons and decided to fight back. As I said, she became an amazing woman. Sorry I keep gushing about her, I just really love her character. BTW Angel and her actually briefly met in Lie to Me. He was saying something insulting about the vampire cult and she said something like "you don't have to be so confrontational about it". Some people think they should've recognised each other because of that, but I'm kind of glad they didn't. And at least from her side it's very understandable - it happened shortly before she was almost killed by Spike so that has to mess with your memory.
