I'm so glad you like this because you got it and, let's be honest, we didn't all get it on the first viewing lol (although that's so long ago I can't even remember now)
Xander really did need a boost in confidence and parts of this are freaking hysterical!!
With respects to the consequences of Helpless I think there are some REALLY subtle ones here, but I have to say you've got to look REALLY hard. Buffy and Giles have a number of interactions where Xander isn't present. In the library Giles does his usual 'It's not a laughing matter' thing but after Buffy reminds him that she's not laughing he looks more than normally chagrin and says sorry and whn she says she doesn't need the math he drops it immediately. Seems to me that he's trying do what she wants and not be an arse about it lol Also, the jellies. He's really indignant at first and directs most of it at Willow, as soon as she says Buffy ate three he literally says 'Doesn't matter. If Xander goes again..." And at the end, Buffy mentions the bravest thing she's ever seen and he says the stupidest. It reminded me of Xander overcompensating in Revelations when he goes out to find the glove. It feels to me that Giles was doing that (which WAS pretty stupid lol)
