HALF A WORLD AWAY

In this odd quarantined world, we creatives have to devise new ways to work. And with careers that involve working with others, that has proven to be particularly challenging. Which is why I’ve started having photo shoots online. Thankfully, this has helped eliminate some previous issues, like wanting to work with model who lives out of state.

The first out-of-state online shoot I’ve done was just last week. Riley is an awesome model living in Seattle, Washington. We’ve known of each other online for almost a year now, sharing a mutual friend, and we’d both expressed interest in working together if/when we were ever to meet up. But now, there was no more need for such limitations.

And yet, there still were some roadblocks. For one, we had to use her phone as the connective product. Which had a good camera on it but no microphone. This meant that she could hear me, but I couldn’t hear her. Hence there was a lot of sign language on her part as we shot. She nodded, inaudibly laughed, made gestures with her hands, and took breaks to text me when she had a question of funny comment.

Even with these restrictions, I think we got along swimmingly. We both had a great time, loved the resulting images, and hope that in the future we will be able to meet and work in person. 

This is a while new concept for me, so please let us know what you think!
