Actually I think it's more about marketing vs word count. There is a psychological difference of getting 20x for $10 vs 6 for $10. Your biggest fans will support....but the casual readers will upgrades if the structure appears to deliver more value.

While I am very grateful for any support, I don't want my readers to feel obligated in any way. I will still write the story - I love doing so. I also like posting on Patreon as the comment sections are much more manageable and I can reply and engage better. RR's comment section is a bit overwhelming for me. I fully support you if you feel uncomfortable with the tier system and wish to pull back. As I replied to Deepak below, to get to three tiers, I was also considering a lower tier that was just 1 chapter ahead - like the original tier. A higher tier felt like too much work, if I'm being honest. But, once more, please do not feel obligated. I appreciate everyone's support, but I don't feel comfortable accepting this much for nothing, either. I at least want to give something back.

Deepal - that was what I was thinking of doing a $3 tier since anything more than $10 feels unnecessary. I know my chapters are double the size of the usual on RR on average - 5k-6k over the usual 1.5k-2.5k - which I didn't realize when I started, so that was my fault, but being so many chapters ahead also feels like there is too much of a disconnect.

True, but their chapters are 1/2 to 1/3 the size. I would add a $2-$3 tier with 1 chapter ahead, so people can show support but also get some benefits.

The stories with $10 tiers tend be significantly advanced...eg 20 or more chapters ahead.

Personally I don’t have an issue with authors trying to up their income. But many don’t seem to realize that once they get close to “published book” pricing, they can no longer dictate the “relative value” of their per-chapter work. There’s certain authors I “wish” would be a tiny bit more greedy (Re: Trailer Trash for example). But this case is not one of them.

I actually joined your Patreon because I liked to support your approach: regardless of what you pay, you get the same amount of chapters. I dislike the "pay more to get more" approach, and feel that it leads to a much worse incentives (you even talked about a third tier above in the comments!). Another person who I support (CasualFarmer) has the same number of chapters, regardless of the tier. I'll be stopping the Patreon after this month. Please consider adding a $1/$2 tier which has no benefits, but allows people who want to show support to do so without getting into the "more chapters for more money" game.

Me too. I subscribed because im impatient and i don't like to wait if i can get the latest chapter for a few bucks. But 10 usd every month for one story is too expensive for me.

I actually wanted to do a third, as three tiers seems the standard, but I don't feel I have enough chapters to warrant a third tier. 10-12 ahead would've been ideal for a third. I also considered adding the benefit of 'side story request'. I don't have enough chapters for a third, though. Maybe one day. :)
