THE GREAT EVERLIE
A year ago I was contacted by this adorable young woman, a new transplant to our area. She is beautiful, elegant, sweet and professional, everything I love in a model, yet she was also heavily tattooed. As many people know, I always want my images to have a graceful, timeless, universal quality, so someone with gothic skulls and colorful cupcakes and Bart Simpson images on their arms is definitely not who I want to have in my photos.
I’ve always thought that the human body is a work of art, and having a lot of tattoos that obstruct the view of the subtle definition of musculature and shape is like putting graffiti on the most beautiful ancient sculptures.
So last December, after my quarter of a million Instagram followers was deleted, I didn’t care so much about sticking to what I’d done in the past. I knew I needed to shake myself up, try something completely out of my comfort zone. By this point I had already worked with Everlie, asking her to take part in a clothing line shoot that had wanted “alternative models” with piercings and tattoos. I knew she was as wonderful in person as anyone else I’d worked with, and I knew I was doing her and myself a disservice by not working with her on my own terms.
Thankfully, Everlie agreed to drive an hour from her in Paso Robles where she owns a tattoo parlour down to where I live in Santa Maria, and the results were great, as you can see in this folder.
Please leave a comment about what you like about my work here as well as a note I can share with the model. Thank you as always for your continued support, your patronage helps make my work possible! And please keep in touch!
