THE MORE THINGS CHANGE
The more things change, the more they stay the same. This vintage series could have been taken 50 years ago, maybe even 100. I love how contrasty and soft and natural it seems. So tangible and real.
Now that I’m teaching black and white photography, I find myself appreciating the medium far more than I ever did. I’m fascinated by old printing techniques, archival papers, cameras from bygone eras that still work well. I’ve been investing in film, especially black and white film, in a way that I haven’t in over a decade. There were times I’d shoot three rolls of 35mm film in a day, get them printed within half an hour, and dissect the afternoon’s work that easily. The waiting, the magic of the reveal, it’s all so intoxicating.
Life is changing a lot for me these days. I’m moving in with my girlfriend, changing my creative outlets, and feeling good about life in a way that completely eluded me a year or two ago. It was a struggle for so long to maintain sanity, contentment. And now, every day, no matter how long, harrowing, tiresome, is a joy.
This series sums up just how much I’ve changed. Five years ago I would have never shot anything like this. Now I seek it out and become frustrated when I can’t do it as quickly as I want. Haley is an absolute joy to work with, and the Madonna Inn is truly a special place.
I hope you enjoy this last series of March with the talented and beautiful Haley. She is everything you could ever want in a model. Have a great weekend!
