PRETTY IN PINK

Growing up in the 1980s, we only owned about five VHS tapes, which meant we watched the same movies over and over and over and over and over again to the point where we mesmerized every line from every film. Blazing Saddles. The Quiet Man. The Empire Strikes Back. Indiana Jones. And Pretty in Pink.

If you aren’t familiar with Pretty in Pink, Molly Ringwald plays her typical struggling, anguished teenager searching for a place in this mixed up world. She’s poor and struggling but has a crush on the rich, sensitive kid whose friends are all shitty and horrible to be around. The punchline of the whole film is her penchant for wearing pink in a few pivotal scenes, not the greatest reason to title a film. But still, it’s a good flick, go check it out.

I’ve worked with OhThumbelina several times over the years, but this time she was even more lovely, more confident, more aware of who she is and what she wants. And that made her irresistible. We shot in this very pink bathroom at the famous Madonna Inn, which seems as though it were designed for her. Let me know what you think!
