February Posting Schedule

Hey all!

Short version: I'm taking February off. Patreon's going to be paused, some content will still be posted. Artwork, maybe a chapter or two. Freebies!

December kicked my ass, but my backlog and the time off I scheduled meant I could weather it all.

January kicked my ass just as hard, and I'm out of backlog. Literally, I've got two chapters left in my backlog after this week's posts got prepped. Sure, I'll restore a good amount with this week's writing, but that's a critically low number.

I think we'd all prefer that chapters are good and on time, as opposed to chaotic 'guys I just finished this 5 minutes ago' posts whenever. Editing's important to me. Quality chapters are important to me.

I have no idea how or why Jan kicked my ass so hard. I just can't get my head screwed on right and writing properly. Call it writer's block, if you must. I can sit down, I can have the outline, but words just don't want to happen, for one reason or another.

I hope by not posting in Feb (I'm not taking it off, to be clear - just not posting or collecting patreon $$) I can rebuild my backlog, and figure out a WORKING cadence to how many chapters a week I post. 5 a week was always ambitious, but I thought I could at LEAST make it to chapter 100 on that pacing. Chapter 75 isn't too bad, all things considered, and I did have that mad burst of 'start of series' energy that had me writing 8-9 chapters a week at the start.

Alas, that manic energy is gone, and I'm settling into the marathon mode.

Anyway, the pressure's too high right now. I'd get off-course on Monday, and spend half the week stressing that I was behind, which just made it harder to write, making me more behind, and... yeah. Suffice to say, Jan didn't go well.

Plus, Mango Media stuff has been taking up a lot of my time. There's a ton of one-off end of year stuff that I've had to do.

All in all - the words didn't happen, and it'd be plain rude of me to take your money and not deliver. I did manage to get chapters done all the way through the end of Jan - and nicely, it ends on a weekend - and I'm quite pleased with it.

It's also going to give me time to kinda 'chaotically write' whatever my heart wants. Maybe I'll do a bunch of CJD chapters. Maybe I'll get a ton of Song done. Maybe a new project will briefly grab my attention. I hope not. But maybe.

At the end, I should have a solid schedule for you all, and you'll all know what you're getting into going forward. Or maybe I'll extend into March - we'll see!

Either way, I hope to deliver quality content on time when Patreon's active, and right now, I can't promise that for February. So I'm pausing until further notice.

Iona tier bonus content will continue to be posted, even with billing paused.

On that note! I've commissioned a number of BTDEM artworks (the artist really wanted to do BTDEM, I'm trying to get her to also add in Song) that I'll be posting for everyone! Again, these posts will happen even if things are paused.

Thank you all for your support.

Cheers!

Take it easy! I always expected you to scale back to 3 chapters a week (minus admin weeks) after the initial rush anyway. Or maybe less, this story feels like it's a level up in writing style and world building so maybe it needs even more time for a chapter to come out good.

Good, you gotta take a pace you can sustain. If you need a break because of what's on your plate you need a break 😊

Whatever it healthier for you is best!

Do what you need to. 5 chapters a week was insane and amazing but dont do it if its not comfortable or its causing you issues. Hope you can chill abit of febuary and get caught up again after madness of holidays and beginning of year.

I'm happy with a much lower release cadence, personally: it can be a bit exhausting to even *keep up* with daily releases, especially from many authors at once. Depending on how February goes, maybe consider halving the Song release frequency? Two chapters a week is still plenty. You could also halve CJD to preserve the current ratio, though I suspect some people would get frustrated with less-than-weekly updates.
