Song Characters - Mini announcement/story update

I realize I've been sending a lot of characters at you very quickly. For those of you unsure of who you ACTUALLY need to care about and track, vs who's just filler. There's some MINOR spoilers for tomorrows chapter.
I'm not going to call the other characters throwaways - they'll be used to expand the world between semesters - but you don't need to think about them too hard right now. They're mostly to flavour the other characters and have them 'bounce off of' right now.
Some of them are going to do MAJOR things that'll completely change the plot, and if I introduce them for the first time when they do major actions, it's not great narratively.
At the same time, I don't want the school to be 'empty', and 'hey, we're all here together and curious about each other' means a lot of names and people are going to show up, even if I try to scale it back. Hence the notes that'll show up at the start of each chapter, helping remind people who's who
I know there's a lot of set up going on here, it's why my original plan was to get so many chapters ready and drop them all at once. My muse would NOT cooperate until I was posting SOMETHING, hence getting them in this format.
Sorry. It should only be awkward for another week or two, then the firehose of names and places will slow way down, and we'll get exploring!
Like, Erik, the social one, only having one friend? It wouldn't make ANY sense, so I need names to pad out the cast. Even then, I went SOD light on it - he should be at the center of a dozen people, not three. I tried to spare you all going THAT deep.

As someone bad with names (who, admittedly, has the benefit of just having binged everything up to this point), I thought it was pretty clear, apart from the professors, which folks would be major characters, at least in the next arc. Not criticizing anyone who found this useful, just saying I think the chapters so far have done a pretty good job of introducing the characters.

2025-10-24 11:24:04 +0000 UTCI think Erik only having a few close friends but being friendly with everyone is perfect. He is a person destined for power with a very regimented life. Those that are allowed to get close to him would be regulated by those around him, and sometimes it wouldn't work out like we saw. This is his chance for him to branch out and make connections of his own that aren't arranged by his family. First impressions, he strikes me as free spirited and socially outgoing young man that has been isolated by duty and station. He has friends, but he still feels lonely. He is nice to everyone around him but in the end he will end up as their Lord, that means he is their provider, their boss, and possibly their executioner. That would make anyone maintain an amount of distance that would preclude real friendship. I look forward to him meeting Felix, as someone from poverty he understands class dynamics but as an American he is indoctrinated to abhore aristocratic trappings.
