Bonus Content - Black Crow, White Dove

Black Crow! White Dove!

There was once a pale woman, who nearly every living being must meet. And yet, they feared this meeting, ran from her, shunned her. Loneliness was her only companion.

So she split herself in twain, so she would always have a friend.

White Dove offers wings to those who are ready to meet their end. Black Crow violently wrenches away those who stubbornly cling to life.

They are two sides of the same coin. Never apart, never seen together, there is only one. A coin, flipping eternally.

But two.

White Dove//Black Crow also curse all humanoids (I'm not cursing turtles) who are unable to meet them naturally. Some races are naturally long-lived, and the curse is racial. Others find their way to immortality their own way, and get a unique curse. A few I know so far:

1) Elves are cursed to be stubborn and aloof

2) Trolls are cursed to petrify under the sun

3) Vampires are cursed to lose all System blessings under the sun

4) Liches are cursed to be unable to reproduce

5) Ents are cursed with being deliberate - they must be Very Certain of what they are doing before they do it.

6) Demons are cursed to chase mortal pleasures, but unable to properly enjoy them

7) Fae can't lie

8) Sphinxes speak in riddles

9) Dryads are bound to their tree

A few creatures are extraordinarily long-lived, but not properly immortal. This includes:

1) Giants - they have a lifespan measured in 5 digits, but they can die of old age.

2) Most dinosaurs

Notable exceptions:

1) Phoenixes do die - they're just one of the only creatures that can come back. White Dove//Black Crow has given up on them - they are dying after all....

I know I've missed dozens of humanoids - let me know who else I'm missing!

Cheers, hope you enjoy the bonus content.

Also, can someone create a plague that makes everyone healthier? Or even immoral?

Wewwew2

What if someone becomes immortal without help of a system? Uses magic from outside the system(from different worlds) or just creates a cure for "old age"? Entirely scientific?

Wewwew2

This page just got even more relevant. 😉

The weak in-story reason is Elvenoids were created first, and between Elvenoids being created, and a lot of other creatures, White Dove went on her cursing spree.

Selkie

Is there an in story explanation for only cursing humanoids? Like white dove being speciesist or inteligent non humanoids (especially dragons) being too scary to curse?

Til Weisheit

Wait a second! Phoenix dodged the curse by dying? I thought they were birds. Are they humanoid or can shapeshift into humanoids?

Alexey Gladkich

It may seem like a mild curse at first, but it is the curse of eternal stagnation. The Elves are doomed to recline in whatever Ivory Tower they have built for themselves never really growing or changing.

Melting Sky

or the inverse of which, the first truly intelligent dinosaurs died because the curse dove/crow gave them was too strong and thus weakened them in a way that lead to them not being as powerful and lead to the creation of dragons instead.

Dethati

Also, if you want to put a limit on Dinosaurs, restricting them from ever having true Sapience would fit. White dove and Black Crow having made that restriction because the first truly intelligent dinosaurs became Dragons, and they don't need any more of those around.

Signspace

Is there only one kind of elf? Stubborn and aloof seems like a pretty mild curse compared to the rest honestly.

I almost didn’t use crow due to the overlap with golden crow. The same number of letters was too perfect for me though. The double crow is a coincidence

Selkie

So, White Dove/Black Crow. Is it a hint that the Golden Crow that Papilion wanted to make Elaine is still in her destiny? I mean, He/She's the God of Change, so He/She could've totally set it up for Elaine to change to become the Golden Crow later. But He/She could also have changed His/Her mind and just made Elaine human when she asked for that. And maybe she only follows that path if she accepts one of His evolutions. But if she DID become Golden Crow it would explain her then surviving as a character until Iona is born.

David Brims

Ah, it just all seemed very convenient. I’m not hating tho, I’m addicted to league currently (“currently means for the past two years). Not gonna lie tho read Iona and Lux and that was the first thing I thought of...maybe I’ve been playing too much league!

IJustWannaRead

As for Iona - completely different derivation

Selkie

Dragons aren't humanoid, so dodge the curse. Humans get a bit of a boot from high VIT, but nothing shocking. A doubling, at best.

Selkie

I mean, until it pulls a materia-blade and becomes humanoid, it won't get cursed! At that point though, it'll get a custom-curse

Selkie

I really want to know what curses you choose for immortals jellyfish.

Darcy Lessard-Patola

"Elaine" means "Light". "Lux" was the easiest "Light" name I could come up with

Selkie

Kindred reference here. And I felt like iola? Can’t remember name, first think I thought of was Ionia especially with Lux (cough cough, I think she was a mage as well) in the last chapter. Perhaps playing a bit too much league?

IJustWannaRead

I would like to know about the dragons life span as it has been confirmed in the book. As well as what the average human lifespan is in this world. Thank you.

Garrett

I started with Kindred! Then I was like "How do I make this concept MINE?" Black and White having the same number of characters, Dove and Crow being the same length, and Doves being peace and purity while Crows being war and strife - it was toooo perfect, and I think I nailed some of the aspects better as a result!

Selkie

Oh, Kindred reference!
