Life Stuff

Turns out I have one of the rare side-effects of ADHD, hyperfocus. So ridiculously focused on something right now, probably take another few days if the focus lasts.

Didn't even know hyperfocus was a thing, though I have definately dealt with it before. I think my medication makes it worse, but fortunately it is still rare.

Made a change to last chapter, added this paragraph, if you read this before 06/04/2022:

====

The question was… when would a dungeon deem a slaughter appropriate? Did it kill those that grew too powerful? Would its progression suddenly become just a little bit steeper? It wouldn’t want anyone to escape and go to another dungeon.

It would be easy enough to blame deaths on people being unprepared, or simply encountering a bad match-up. Especially if everyone knew that the dungeon was always fair. A sudden change to the progression might allow it to harvest most people. And if this dungeon was as smart as it seemed… it wouldn’t show this change to everyone. It would be sudden, a seeming random confluence of bad luck. Something that could be ignored as unfortunate chance, in case anyone escaped.

====

This adds a little more context to his fear for his companions. Also added a line about him feeling both fear and worship for the dungeon, as a result of seeing it being such an incredible predator.

ADHD. I was before that became a thing. I adapted, I was very much ADHD, that said I’m not sure if the medication the next generation received actually helped in the long term. However I hope you are feeling better.

Sometimes I do, sometimes... not so well. Just knowing what's going on does make it easier than before my diagnosis, (back when I thought there was something "wrong" with me instead of just something cognitively different). In the end, it's part of what makes me me, and accepting that, (good and bad), was actually really big for me. I just hope you manage to find your way through dealing with your own successfully. I don't know anyone with it who finds it easy, but some definitely seem to be more comfortable with it than others. I just wanted you to know that there are a lot more of us out there who understand some of what you may be dealing with in relation to the ADHD than you may have thought. It's a shame the medication was making the hyperfocus worse for you too. :(

Yeah, different things can help at times. Hopefully you manage yours well.

I, and several of my close friends and family are all ADHD diagnosed, (birds of a feather and all...), hyperfocus is a core feature of ADHD; nothing at all rare about it. I feel your pain on the struggle to manage it, but remember that it is ultimately you, not the ADHD, in charge of your decision making. You can break out of a hyperfocus, (though it sucks to do), or even use it as a motivator for yourself. I'll often set myself some objective that I have to achieve before I'll let myself indulge in my hyperfocus activity of the moment, and that need to get to what I really want to do becomes a motivator for me to push through what I actually have to get done. It's not fun, but it works for me, and I'm sure that you can find something that works for you as well.

It's not rare (it's part of attention disregulation), although I totally get that ADHD kicks ass (trust me I know)

As a sufferer of both generalized anxiety and major depression, mental illness can just go die in hole. I getchu, take all the time you need
