King of Idols C3 Aizawa Souta

Renji was itching to delve deeper into the intricacies of the Idol System, but he knew that now was not the time.

With the class in full swing, he couldn't risk drawing any more attention to himself by tapping at thin air like a madman.

He had already made enough of a spectacle during his introduction; the last thing he needed was to cement his reputation as the class weirdo.

So, he forced himself to focus on the lesson at hand, his ears perking up as the pretty teacher, Ms. Suzuki, began her lecture on Japanese Literature.

Suddenly, Ms. Suzuki's gaze fell on Renji, a glint of curiosity in her eyes. "Hoshikawa-kun, could you please explain the significance of the seasonal imagery in Basho's haiku?"

Renji could feel the weight of his classmates' stares, their anticipation palpable. He caught a glimpse of Souta leaning forward in his seat, a smug grin playing on his lips as he waited for Renji to stumble.

But little did they know, Renji had already covered this material in his first year of high school—in his previous life, that is.

With a calm clarity that belied his earlier awkwardness, he launched into a detailed explanation of the symbolism and emotional resonance of Basho's naturalistic themes.

Ms. Suzuki blinked in surprise, clearly taken aback by Renji's unexpectedly thorough answer. "That's...that's absolutely correct, Hoshikawa-kun. I must say, I'm impressed. We haven't even covered that concept in class yet."

Renji ducked his head, a sheepish grin tugging at his lips. "Ah, well...I guess I just really like reading about this stuff in my free time."

Ms. Suzuki nodded, a spark of interest flaring in her eyes as she regarded Renji in a new light. 'It seems there's more to this Hoshikawa Renji than meets the eye,' she mused silently. 'A hidden depth of knowledge, a passion for literature...how intriguing.'

As the lesson continued, Renji couldn't help but bask in the satisfying glow of his small victory. He could feel the surprised stares of his classmates, could practically hear the gears turning in their heads as they reevaluated their initial dismissal of him.

'Looks like I made quite the impression,' he thought to himself, a wry smile playing on his lips. 'Guess there's more than one way to stand out in this world.'

But as much as he relished this moment of validation, Renji's thoughts kept drifting back to the mysterious Idol System. He needed to know more—needed to understand the full scope of the power that had been placed in his hands.

So, as soon as the bell rang, signaling the end of Japanese Literature, Renji wasted no time in diving into the system's interface, his fingers flying over the ethereal buttons only he could see.

A sudden ping drew Renji's attention to a new system notification:

Renji's heart raced with excitement as he finished reading the skill description. 'This...this is incredible!' he thought, his mind already spinning with the possibilities. 'With a skill like this, I could take my performances to a whole new level!'

And all he had to do was meet some basic requirements before the manga's main plot kicked off. A quick mental calculation told him he had about a year to work with—the story's central arc wouldn't begin until the second year of high school, when Haruto and the other future members of "Arise" would first come together.

'Plenty of time to get my act together,' Renji mused, a confident grin spreading across his face. 'I've got this in the bag.'

But then his gaze fell on the punishment for failing the main mission, and his stomach dropped.

[Punishment: Failure to complete the main mission will result in your return to your previous world, injuries and all.]

A chill ran down Renji's spine at the thought. 'No...no way. I can't go back to that. I won't.' His eyes hardened with resolve. 'Failure is not an option. I have to succeed, no matter what it takes.'

Suddenly, a chorus of giggles and excited chatter yanked Renji out of his thoughts. He glanced over to see Aizawa Souta surrounded by a gaggle of starry-eyed girls, their attention fixed solely on the handsome young man in their midst.

The disgruntled mutterings of the male students filled the classroom as they watched Souta bask in the adoration of his female classmates.

"Can you believe this guy? It's only the first day, and he's already got them eating out of the palm of his hand."

"What's so special about him anyway? I don't get it."

Renji couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for his fellow outsiders. But his attention was quickly drawn back to Souta, who had excused himself from his admirers and was now making his way towards Renji's desk.

Instantly, Renji's guard went up. 'What does this snake want with me?' he wondered, his eyes narrowing in suspicion.

Souta's smile was the picture of kindness as he approached, but Renji knew better than to be fooled by his charming facade. "I couldn't help but notice you staring at me earlier," Souta began, his head tilted in curiosity. "Pretty intense gaze you had there. Do we know each other from somewhere? You feel... familiar somehow."

Renji had to bite back a scoff. 'Oh, I know exactly who you are, you two-faced jerk. But there's no way you'd remember a nobody like me.' Out loud, he chuckled and shook his head. "No, you just looked kind of familiar, that's all. My mistake."

To Renji's surprise, he caught a few of the girls shooting him curious glances, their eyes tinged with what almost looked like...jealousy? 'Seriously? I didn't even do anything to them. But just because Souta's giving me the time of day, suddenly I'm public enemy number one?'

Souta, seemingly oblivious to the undercurrents of tension, just smiled and shrugged. "Is that so? Well, I do get that a lot. Guess I just have one of those faces, you know?"

Just as Renji thought the exchange was over, Souta leaned in close, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I saw the way you were looking at me earlier, you know. If looks could kill, I'd be six feet under by now."

Renji tensed, surprised by the sudden shift in Souta's demeanor. He glanced around, acutely aware of their classmates' presence, but Souta's words were too low for anyone else to hear.

"Listen up, creep," Souta hissed, his eyes narrowing. "I don't know what your deal is, but if you don't want to make an enemy out of every girl in this school, you'll keep your little obsession in check. Got it?"

His eyes flicking meaningfully towards the gaggle of girls nearby. "Wouldn't want to end up on their bad side, now would you?"

Renji was too stunned to respond. He could only watch as Souta's face instantly transformed back into a mask of cheerful friendliness. "Well, if you ever need anything, don't be shy!" Souta said loudly, clapping Renji on the shoulder. "I'm always happy to help out a classmate in need."

The girls practically swooned at this display of kindness, and even some of the boys looked grudgingly impressed that Souta was extending an olive branch to someone as unremarkable as Renji.

But Renji knew the truth. He had just witnessed a master class in manipulation, and it left him feeling both disgusted and oddly fascinated. 'I knew he was a snake, but to see it play out in real life like this...it's like something straight out of a drama.'

As the school day wore on, Renji tried to put the unsettling encounter out of his mind and focus on his studies. He also took some time to further explore the Idol System, noting the daily missions he'd need to complete to earn rewards and avoid minor punishments.

When the final bell rang, Renji breathed a sigh of relief. He gathered his things and made his way out of the school, eager to put some distance between himself and the suffocating atmosphere of the classroom.

As he walked, memories of his life in this world—the life of Hoshikawa Renji—began to surface.

He saw flashes of a loving family: a father who owned a small entertainment company, a doting housewife mother, an independent older sister away at college, and a younger sister with whom he...no, the original Renji...had always butted heads.

'This is my life now,' Renji reminded himself, taking a deep breath as he stepped out into the bustling streets of Tokyo. 'And I'm going to make the most of it, no matter what it takes. I won't let anyone stand in my way...especially not a snake like Aizawa Souta.'

With renewed determination, Renji headed home, prepared to confront whatever challenges the new world had in store for him.
