K-Producer C47 Look Up

Jae-sung moved to the front, clutching the microphone tightly as he peered across a sea of faces. “Thank you all for coming out tonight and supporting Ascend. We… we can’t put into words how much this means to us.”

The crowd erupted in cheers – not deafening, but warm and excited. His eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled, his heart swelling with emotion.

There was a pause, then someone from the middle of the audience shouted: “Give us your best performance!”

Jae-sung’s eyes widened slightly as he tried to pinpoint the voice.

He couldn’t find it, but he nodded anyway, his smile growing wider. “You heard them, guys,” he said, turning back toward his bandmates.“Let’s give them everything we’ve got!”

They all nodded back at him, their determination shining through their expressions. The crowd fell silent in anticipation.

For a moment there was nothing; then the first notes of their song ‘Love Sentence’ began pulsing through the speakers.

People held their breaths as Jae-sung’s smooth voice filled up the venue: “Your smile’s a crime scene – I can’t look away…”

They moved together - bodies flowing into choreography that had become second nature after countless hours of practice - on Min-jae’s line something seemed to break in the room; energy started flooding in where tension had been just seconds before: “Every glance is theft… stealing my sanity…”

Fans began moving along with them – some mouths shaped around words they’d only just now heard themselves say; somehow even people who had come here out of mere curiosity seemed captivated by catchy beat and clever wordplay.

As Ascend continued performing what was technically still their opening act, more and more of those initially hesitant fans started warming up – lights from first concert attendees’ light sticks waved enthusiastically throughout crowd like ocean currents pulsating softly under rhythmic sea of music.

Some of those newcomers who had been skeptical about spending thousands upon thousands of won on a relatively unknown group found their bodies moving almost involuntarily to the catchy tune and clever lyrics.

In the middle of the crowd, a tight-knit group of friends huddled close together, eyes widening in recognition. “Hey, isn’t this the song from that viral clip?” one of them asked excitedly.

Her friend nodded vigorously. “Yeah it is! I’ve been dying to hear the full version.”

A fan who had attended Ascend’s first concert overheard their conversation and leaned in: “It’s even better live, isn’t it? Just wait till you see the dance break coming up.”

As if on cue, the music shifted – Ascend launched into an intricate dance sequence that had everyone gasping; every precise movement and synchronization showed hours upon hours spent practicing as well as undeniable talent.

Even people who had only come out here to satisfy their own curiosity couldn’t help but get drawn in by what they were seeing before them.

Near the back wall of venue sat a middle-aged man who had brought his young teenage daughter along with him – he nudged her with an elbow: “You know, I thought I was doing you a favor by bringing you here… But this is actually pretty impressive.”

She beamed up at him, joy glowing across her face like sunshine breaking through clouds after months apart. “I told you they were good dad! Just wait until you hear some of their other songs…”

With the last notes of "Love Sentence" dying down, the crowd burst into applause. They were genuinely thrilled, and Byul-ho could see it in their eyes. Breathless but radiant, Ascend bowed deeply before waving and disappearing behind the stage.

Once they were out of sight, there was a flurry of low fives between all of them — contained excitement sizzling from their pupils. As they walked backstage, there was a shared sense of relief and achievement so thick one could touch it.

Byul-ho greeted them with a small smile and a nod. "Good work," he said simply, his voice warm.

Most of them traded silent jubilant glances and soft words of encouragement to each other. But Byul-ho noticed that Yeon-seok and Hyun-woo looked less than thrilled. Their smiles didn't reach their eyes; their backs slouched just slightly more than everyone else’s.

He approached them with caution: “Everything okay?” he asked quietly enough that only they would hear.

Yeon-seok and Hyun-woo exchanged a quick look before Hyun-woo answered, “It's nothing, hyung. We're fine.”

Byul-ho studied them for another beat — knew there was something more there — but didn’t push it. Instead he clapped both their shoulders softly. “You did well out there,” he said quietly but sincerely.

They nodded back at him with smaller smiles that seemed realer this time around. He gave them one last nod before turning to address the entire group again; this time his voice hardly reached above a whisper so as not to disturb the backstage energy.

“Alright let’s prep for the next set,” he said simply, his words barely audible over the hums and booms drifting from beyond the curtain. “Stay focused.”

A couple of minutes later, Ascend reappeared wearing sleek Mobs Club outfits. The lighting changed, giving the stage a warm, nostalgic feel as the opening notes of “Look Up” began to play.

Yeon-seok stepped forward, his voice strong and steady:

“The sky is wide, the sun so bright

The clouds depart, revealing clear blue light

Our worries fade, like shadows in the day

It’s time to rise, to find a brand new way”

He spread his arms wide as he sang, moving fluidly but with precision. Behind him, the other members did a synchronized wave motion – their bodies flowing like clouds parting in the sky.

When Yeon-seok stepped forward for the first verse of this performance, there was an audible gasp from some audience members who were surprised by this; fans exchanged glances and raised eyebrows in mild shock.

“Is that Yeon-seok?” one fan whispered to her friend.

“I think it is,” her friend replied, leaning forward for a better look. “I didn’t expect him to start the song.”

Hyun-woo then took center stage with a deeper voice that added more color to its melody:

“Memories dance, in sepia-toned dreams

Yesterday’s joy, in today’s moonbeams

We’re writing our story, page by golden page

Our future’s bright, on this grand stage”

During Hyun-woo’s verse they did smooth gliding steps reminiscent of classic Motown performances where they moved their arms all at once and snapped their fingers on beat.

All seven members joined voices for the chorus:

"Look up, don't let your head hang low Look up, there's so much more to know The world is changing, but we're changing too
Look up, and see what we can do"

For this higher gear chorus they pointed upwards on a diagonal while rolling their bodies wave-like – then seamlessly transitioning into a V-formation with sharp retro-inspired arm movements that showcased the stylish lines of their Mobs Club outfits.

Jae-sung and Min-jae took the bridge together, harmonizing:

Jae-sung: “In this moment, we’re alive and free”

Min-jae: “Our spirits soaring for all the world to see”

As they sang these lines Jae-sung and Min-jae did a partner dance move that echoed classic duos’ elegant style while the rest of them executed a slow-motion wave in background which created visually striking contrast.

During Ascend’s performance, the audience became less surprised and more impressed. Their choreography, as well as their synchronized movements inspired by retro dance styles, left people in awe with mouths agape and heads nodding in appreciation.

One fan pointedly nudged her friend, tilting her head towards the phone situated discreetly on her friend’s lap. The friend gave a slight smile and affirmative tilt of the head — yes she was recording despite the venue’s no-phone policy.
