[Poll] I need your thoughts!
Added 2025-01-20 03:44:20 +0000 UTCContext: I am scheduling many readings (of poems, letters, book excerpts, historical excerpts, articles, etc.) for Patreon uploads and was wondering, as I continue to record these, just how I should approach creating a variety, or if I should vary at all.
How often do you prefer any sound effects or ambiences or background music mixed in with your audiobook narrations?
Do you prefer to be able to mix them on your end and just have the raw/ narration to listen to?
Or do you prefer to listen to the raw voice of narration alone and nothing else?
Feel free to interact with the poll, or leave a comment to elaborate your preferences, or both!
(The poll is set to where you can select multiple choices on purpose.)
Let me know! :)

2025-01-21 22:29:47 +0000 UTCIt's hard to decide because it depends on the story being told, the intended purpose of the audio, and a bunch of other smaller things. Each of these options could be good depending on what you're going for. Sorry I couldn't give you a solid answer.

2025-01-21 00:30:03 +0000 UTCThank you Nick! Tbh the readings that are already done are just raw, voice-only, but embellishments is something I want to do, so I really appreciate the feedback. It will certainly help me going forward, as well as any added feedback along the way, like you said! :D

2025-01-21 00:27:34 +0000 UTCI do prefer sound or music in addition to the narration as I feel it ads a bit of depth to the story. Though each sound should compliment the story. I don't absolutely need an audio to have extra sounds in there. Sometimes just listening to a narration is more than enough. It's just nice to hear that extra bit in there. ^_^

2025-01-20 13:09:38 +0000 UTCTo be perfectly honest, the sound effects will have to be on a story to story basis. Just because something will sound good with one story doesn’t mean that it’ll sound good on another story. For example, if you were to read something that focuses on the ocean, or other bodies of water, then having water based sound effects will be great to have in the audio itself. However, if you have a story based in a city or a home, then those same ocean sound effects just won’t work out because it’ll be too distracting to the listener. Conversely, if you were to just yap at us about random things, then you can put whatever sound effects you want into the Yapathon, and it really shouldn’t matter if it fits, because you’re just doing whatever you want to do

2025-01-20 07:12:48 +0000 UTCLike Mark said, sounds that fit the story are important. But I'll bet you already thought of that your self. You can't really go wrong with ambiance and effects. You only can get better doing it more often, and take feed back along the way. Music on the other hand is a whole other thing, I like Music in the back ground. But I might prefer a vastly different track or music style, as let's say Conor, or Zack. And the same goes for the volume strength of the track. I hope I gave you enough to work with here Lav, i can't wait to see the first reading being posted.

2025-01-20 05:03:50 +0000 UTCThat is a lot of options! 1st: sounds that add or relate to the story being told. 2nd: sounds to add ambiance like rain or a thunderstorm. 3rd: crackling fire. Also night/forest sounds, crickets, frogs, owl, wolf.
