TRON LAPSE

We're finally getting a new TRON film! Yay. Regardless of what anybody's thoughts or fears are for Ares (or Jared Leto for that matter) I'll personally take anything I can get. I've been a TRON fan ever since I saw the first one on VHS when I was like, I dunno 6yo or something. To this day the entire concept and designs have been at the top of my all-time favorite things list. And I dug how years later Legacy leveled everything up.

So for Timelapse Tuesday, I thought I'd share this Yori pinup from not too long ago. I actually thought I might have already shared it on here once already? But didn't see it in the collection so apologies if maybe I just forgot to tag it.

Regardless, I uploaded the full lapse this time. Six minutes which means this illustration likely took me about six hours to draw (for those who like to know that stuff). I remember taking a slightly different approach to this one, working all in one layer--similar to a traditional oil/acrylic painting--"carving" the lines and colors to sort of give shape to the illustration. Wasn't as quick, but it gave the drawing a more natural, softer look which I still think plays well against the otherwise digital subject matter.

It might be a little dull just watching me figure out those various lines (especially on her suit) so feel free to scrub through quickly. A little after the 4 min mark, I start drawing this grid behind her. It looks cool, so I have no idea why I decided to replace it with the background that's there now (that one was done with a single brush stroke btw). I must have thought the grid lines were too distracting. Maybe I'll try my hand at them again for the eventual Ares fan art I have no doubt I'll end of drawing.

Oh man. Would have loved standing around during that conversation.

I hope it just gives me at least 5-10 min of something cool.

Looks great, but skeptical of the upcoming movie... 🤨

It remains fun still. I remember interacting with Robert Abel at Siggraph and talking to concept artists about the film.
