Happy Star Wars Day! I kinda love that a silly pun people use to say has become a full-fledged internet holiday. To celebrate, here's a band-new drawing of Rey! And for the first time, I'm also attaching a hi-res layered PSD file for those who want to take a more intimate look at my process. Please don't print/post/share it.
I'm kicking myself a little because I forgot to hit record for a time-lapse. But if you had seen the time-lapse, you would have seen me struggling with what to put in her hands. Staff? Lightsaber? TWO lightsabers??? Which is ultimately what I decided on. I like that by including Kylo's, it tells a bit of a story. I of course have some thoughts on what that story is, but I feel it's much more interesting for others to come up with their own.
Anyhoo. I love Rey! Even if I feel like we never really got to see the full potential of her character. She has my absolute favorite Star Wars theme. It gets stuck in my head a lot which in turn always makes me want to draw her. In keeping with the subject title, I'd like to say this is the fourth time I've drawn Rey, but after hunting through my files I guess it was the sixth. Thought I'd share those past ones with you while I was here.

The first time I ever drew drew Rey, about seven years ago. I think this was drawn before the Force Awakens even came out in theaters.

Another messy watercolor of her and BB-8. I don't really like this one. I don't share it often.
__

A variant cover I did for an issue of Star Wars Adventures. Happy they let me depict a quiet moment.
__

A manga(ish) drawing I sketched pretty quickly after the first teaser for Rise of Skywalker was released.
__

A lil' Rey I posted last year for Star Wars Day (some of you might have a wallpaper of this on your phones). However, I was never very happy with how I drew her face here soooo....
__

...I fixed it! And posted it on a few of the socials for this year's Star Wars Day. :)
That's it! May the fourth be with you! Always.
