Animation Timelapse: Astrologian Lizard

Hello! Here's an animation timelapse from my last video!

It's been a little while since I last did one of these. They take some time to get done but I really enjoy making them!

It's always interesting to me to make these because as I try to notice again what I was doing, I get more critical of the thing I did - so by the end, I was noticing that if I were to still work on it, I'd probably refine and change a few things. For example, I mention trying to get the accommodation of the arm in an arc as it goes back after the "shoo" motion, but now I think it stopped too abruptly, and it still need to be a slower, wider arc.

Then again, animation is much more about training the eye to see those things than an actual technical button-pressing thing. So just by seeing those things it's already an improvement!

And also, the movements don't have to be perfect - and they will never be. As long as you're trying to get better at each one, and you're successful in getting the idea/message you want across, then it's all good! At least that's what I tell myself. Never go for perfection, go for better than the last one. Or not even, just go for done so you can keep making more! You will inevitably get better at it with practice.

By the way, sorry that my posting schedule is a mess, but this time it's because it's been less than a week since the last full video. I'm trying to compensate for a few missed weeks! Well, more videos is better than less videos, right?

If you have any questions, let me know.

Thank you for watching and for your support!

Thank you!! I'm happy to hear you liked it~ I feel a little better knowing its just Blender tbh :x but yes sometimes it happens that things are acting weird in just a specific file, so apparently that's one of those cases? I didn't have many problems with the motion trail until this one, so I guess I got lucky most of the time! Ohh!! That's interesting :O I've never used expressions for animation before, I'll try it out the next time!!! That's really useful, thank you!!!

Hi Liz! Thanks for the vid :D You really nailed the animation from reference, you do have a good eye for that :) Raha is also so cute in that shot, I love the final animation at the end in general <3 The motion path in Blender drives me insane, too... it's not your fault... it is just always broken :( I hope they'll work on that more 🙈 Regarding the problem with weapon rotation, sometimes that just bugs out, and I have never found a way to get it to work again in a "broken" file like that, except for coping everything into a new blender file. As it is a linear animation, there is a work around to that: You write the following expression into the rotation value of the objects center axis: #frame * (NUMBER OF HOW MANY TIMES TO ROTATE AROUND THE OWN CENTER * (2*pi) / TOTAL NUMBER OF ANIMATION FRAMES IN THIS SCENE) for example: #frame*(3*(2*pi) / 240) This will spin the weapon 3 times around its center during 240 frames of animation. The 3 is basically what states the speed. That has to be a real number (so no .5 or stuff) in order to loop correctly, but as your not going for a perfect loop here, you can put whatever looks good and it will be smooth :)
