Morning

I wanted to finish the set by the end of this year, and I just barely managed it! Lot's of really tough challenges in this one as always, with the natural lighting and wide scenes. Plenty to talk about in the process videos for this one :)

I want to hear what you think about this set too, so please do let me know!

Lastly, I hope everyone is having a good end of year break, and maybe it's time I took mine :) Next month will be a free month (or month off), so I can catch up on the video for this one, so please feel free to keep an eye out for that too.

Del Shen

Great work as always! I love seeing the two characters together like this. Have a great new years! I'm looking forward to seeing what you have for us in '24.

The best way for me personally is to integrate the technical side of learning and practice with drawing what you're interested in. Even now I would say 95% of the time there is still a lot of basics involved in drawing! In my opinion, basics are the only things that matter until much later on where being proficient at basics will help unlock your perspective on how you want to direct your visual style.

GUWEIZ

Thank you very much for sharing that idea! Indeed that particular shot in the 3rd frame could perhaps use more bloom and rim lighting :) Doing these from imagination are really challenging, especially when having to match it with earlier artwork showing the same locations, and with a predetermined lighting in mind. Thank you again for the kind words, it was definitely a fun time making this set!

GUWEIZ

You're too kind :)

GUWEIZ

That sounds very intriguing!

GUWEIZ

Thank you! It's always great to hear that, I will keep trying my best in 2024!

GUWEIZ

Hmmm

GUWEIZ

Thank you for the kind words as always! The video might be an interesting idea too :)

GUWEIZ

Thank you for the kind words! Regarding your question, it's difficult to choose between sketches even for me! Sometimes it's really about a balance between what is the most fitting and what you can reasonable handle. How much of the character you want to show also impacts the composition choice - if you have other frames that give more info on the character, you can get away with showing less here. My recommendation is really to just give it your best shot, it's the only way to figure out what's interesting to you and also pushes limits!

GUWEIZ

Thank you, it's double the work doing 2 characters, but it's fun to get this kind of interactivity and immersion in exchange too! And indeed it's probably time to start thinking of new characters ;)

GUWEIZ

Thank you, I'm sure they appreciate it. And you too!

GUWEIZ

Hello, GU, I have always liked your works and followed your example. I am also practicing the basics now, but after a long time I will want to draw and create, but I am worried that the basics are not enough to get good results. May I ask you How do you face this problem? Thanks

Acut

Great work as always :D really love your attention to detail with all the scenes! I think since you have a lot of details in the shadows then maybe the lights need a bit more overexposing and or hard reflections (eg on the floorboards). Also I don’t know how to explain this but you know when a bright light bleeds over an edge of a dark silhouette? I think it’s called diffraction? I think it would be good in some areas here :) hope it makes sense! I think you did these environments more from imagination right? I really love this set especially the first one :) I especially like how you capture the poses mid action, makes it feel very lively :D

Guweiz drawings of women in suits and elegant dresses has gotta be the best genre

Theres a manga called Gokurakugai by Yuto Sano that reminds me a lot of your artwork as far as atmosphere and the "Supernatural Hong Kong Action Movie" aesthetic. Gokurakugai is more of a generic shounen action series like Bleach whereas yours is more of a crime/underworld drama from what I can tell.

Eclipse

Damn, the lighting in this is some of my favortie in your work, really well done. And happy holidays too :)

who are the little wizard and the big man following them oO

Yap, just as I was about to go to sleep, I came across this new masterpiece. It got me really excited. The indoor lighting and the depiction of the morning streets are done remarkably well. I hope you can create a video to review all the works from the past year. Of course, I will continue to support you next year as well. I hope you have a great rest during the holidays. Happy New Year!

9YL

Happy holidays to you as well! I can't believe you've made it. Take some time off and regain some of the energy that you need for the new year to come. And I do have one question. I have started to work on sets, as you are doing, and I have one problem with the piece that is currently just a sketch. A character is dropped down and needs to land. I just don't know in which angel I should make that piece. The straight-on view is a little bit too basic and I used it before, and from the back is not so impactful. What do you recommend I should do? The pose of the landing is kinda like a squat one (you know when a cool character lands? kind of like that).

Vanaris

I have to say: I really like seeing all the drawings with these two together lately. Really adds some world building and character to them. I hope we can see some other characters show up too sometime. (I see some witch hats in the background of the fourth piece 👀)

jabamizu

These are great. Happy holidays! And may your characters have a great year of 2024!

Archie

I just literally saw this on twitter and oh my god. This is literally the reason I am learning to draw/paint because this is honestly the coolest thing I have ever seen!!!
