GUWEIZ Patreon Series EP 32.4 (Process Walkthrough)

The final process video of the set! To round off the set, I wanted a piece that was a bit more action-oriented, and the arcade racing bikes felt like the perfect touch. Despite my initial confidence about the plan, it was still a substantial challenge getting the composition to come together naturally, especially with all these pesky colors to work with! Still, it was definitely a learning experience working with actually emoting characters versus the usual frown :) You can see some of my fatigue starting to really kick in towards the end, but this was definitely a worthwhile set to have drawn (pending future remasters as well!)

Thank you so much as always for being here,  your support really means a lot :) Feel free to drop your questions in the comments below and I will get back to you ASAP!

Characters when the camera is close and not just cropped tightly (big distortion across the character as a result) are really hard to draw indeed! There is a reason that in so many years of drawing that I've only recently started to grasp it a bit more consistently. It requires a lot of understanding of the exact forms and volumes you are drawing (how they rotate, how they indicate gesture) - as these are the things you actually align to the grid or box. Also, reference is always very helpful in learning some of nuances of how things appear differently when you have a lot of "proximity distortion" going on. I would recommend to tackle this problem a little at a time, by starting with more gentle perspective and ramping it up in future drawings bit by bit.

How do you approach character drawing in perspective? I've been trying to give my characters more dynamic camera angles, but my brain doesn't get the right information about the perspective. I've been trying to draw a box and then them, but I can't do it. Any tips?
