EP30.4 Process Walkthrough

The next process is up! This one was definitely presented a different type of challenge compared to the three before - The difficulty was not in drawing the scene itself, but really deciding on what exactly to put where to make the hideout look exactly like how I see it mentally. It took quite a bit of trial and error, and I learnt a lot more about composition too!

As a bonus, new "secret" resource turns out to be very helpful in specific poses like this!

As always, thank you all for your kind support, and feel free to let me know of any questions or thoughts below.

I know I’m late but she got that gyat 👀. Jokes aside, this is a great piece of artwork, so complex and it all still works to support the focal point. You have convinced me to fill in the environment and really take my time with a painting. I think there are a lot of people who underestimate just how much you can learn from a painting when you take it as far as you can.

Thank you! That is a great question. It depends on the type of scene that you're drawing too - a naturally complex scene and well lit scene will require a more detail to be believable compared to a intentionally clean and simple setting. The solution is to try and anchor the space around a theme - is it a kitchen/living room/bathroom/lab/office, etc. Then it becomes much easier to use reference and figure out what elements belong where in the scene!

Thank you! It seems like an overwhelming amount of detail, but I feel it's something that builds up over time :)

All the details and seeing the process always blows me away!! All of your spaces look so ‘lived in’ and alive. On that note, do you have any tips for populating and filling a space with props? This is something I struggle with a lot haha, my spaces often feel almost sterile :,)

It always amazes me how many details you put in your paintings. I mean - when I look at it, it looks like very believable entryway. But all the shoes! And jackets! Some things put neatly, other a bit messy, and this shoe number on the sole... I'm not sure if I could imagine it with such accuracy. However you arrive to these ideas, I truly admire your skill and hard work.
