The land thing is dumb. He’s the guy who wasn’t even there in person and had a magic clone in his place.

If someone forces me to choose between the characters from Dungeon Meshi and Frieren, I will probably choose Dungeon Meshi every time. It's just a matter of design, you can quickly identify character traits in Dungeon Meshi just by how they look and how they talk, something Frieren struggles a bit with some of the characters, and the growth is pretty much dialed down because of the pace of the story, not saying is bad, it's just how it works with Iyashikei (slice of life) shows which is what frieren is in essence and it's why people have so much clashes. But my reasoning is pretty much biased because of the two mangas, I've read both. A good example of a series of this style would be Mushishi, I only has like 3 recurrent characters on the whole show and the author is able to flesh them out masterfully, even the characters that are used just in one episode feel like they are human. That said, I don't know why people is so picky about these things, Frieren does it's narrative in a way few stories can pull off, even though I said all the things above, the characters are by no means plain or boring, and they all have pretty profound traits. This people will never think something if enough, like kids that throw tantrums cause one plate has one ingredient that you can easily set aside, but now they don't wan't to eat it... just because one specific thing is bad in your eyes I don't see how it can ruin your whole experience unless it is too extreme, like, bro, learn to be tolerant. Like, it's okey to criticize in good faith, but people just become whole haters.
