Regarding scaling in the past: Usually the camera is positioned at Steven's perspective. So we see Steven as a kid, Amethyst as short, Greg and Pearl at about normal adult height, and Garnet as really tall. In the past, the camera is at Greg's height and 8 foot tall Rose is hanging around. Greg is only a little taller compared to Rose in the past than Steven is compared to Garnet in the present. That makes everyone else scale down.
