Project Vault Game Dev Log 04

And another month of progress done! Been a pretty big month for working on a lot of the various little aspects of the game. Been really focusing on some of the movement mechanics for Bod this time around while also starting to develop the first prototype demo build! Been a lot of things to clean up and learn, especially when introducing mechanics such as climbing in the game!! I'm just about done with the first build and expect to have the cleanup done next week! Gonna let a few close friends and family play around with it a bit, do some cleanup from their experiences and feedback before dropping the first link on here :3!!

So for next month what are the goals? Following the first demo build, one of the next things I want to start working on is a few more of the stealth mechanics. Will start working on a lot of the mechanics that revolve around the enemy AI and sneaking past them. Going to start with a pretty easy enemy such as the little Sentient Mine in the sketch below! Likewise adding in Bod's ability to defend themself against them >:3!

First Demo Progress: So for the first demo build, I've been focusing it around some very simple puzzles related to the block pushing! Been playing a lot with the block pushing mechanics by adding in some minor puzzle systems such as pressure pads, locking doors, conveyor belts, and laser grids >:3! Gonna be really excited to have folks play around with it! Planning on doing a bit of interaction cleanup this next week on it so that things start looking a bit smoother for the animations and such!

Fabricated Chambers Concept Art: Wanted to try and get a bit of an idea of what the training/Simulated ruin levels would look like! For a lot of the early dev builds I'm going to be trying to get a feel for a level like this as a sort of training exercise on level building and asset building :3!! For a bit of lore on it, this place is designed to feel like Ali's (the Ai of Bod's suit) best attempt at creating a training room that would feel like a old Ruin for Bod to explore and practice in!

Sentient Mine Design sketches: Got a doodle finished up for one of the Restless enemies that Bod will find in some of the Ruins! This guy is a little hidden mine/trap that will hide out in walls/ground/ceiling waiting for some unsuspecting person to wander by. Once activated they will pop out and try to approach said explorer before detonating in close proximity. Thankfully Bod has a few methods to deal with them including the ol' Mighty Boot!

Game Mechanics: So lots of little mechanics getting worked on this month! Been really working on getting the block pushing and climbing mechanics working! So far I've gotten at least the mechanics working as intended for Bod to push and pull boxes of various sizes and shapes so that the animations/speeds change up with the size. Likewise Vaulting and climbing interactions have been programmed in so that Bod can potentially climb up on said boxes. Then design wise I doodled up some stuff regarding a pair of other mechanics: Scrap Throwing and Footprints! Both of these will be mechanics that show up down the road as I add more to the game :3!
