The God Eater games' gamplay is basically like Monster Hunter: you go to a hub world to pick a quest, craft and equip weapons and armor and buy stuff, then you go and do the quest with either other players or AI teammates (those characters being the ones in the anime) and complete the quest within a time limit (usually killing a boss). The main character is also a silent, "create a character". The difference is the higher emphasis on the plot (MonHun tho has more variety for gameplay), the gameplay imo is overall faster, you choose two weapons for a mission (a melee mode and a gun mode, including the bullets you use, for the God Arc), and the maps are generally smaller than MonHun. I think so far the anime takes the main plot, but is pretty liberal in straying away a bit to focus on characters and stuff. For example, I don't think any of the stuff in this episode happened in the game, except for the last flashback scene.
