I like your analysis at the end of the video, but something I'd be wary about is writing a different show in your head based on a small amount of info. Regarding Yamada's eating habits, I'd point out a few things: we know why she snacks in the library and it's because she's being considerate of her best friend Kobayashi who has allergies. A very Occam's Razor way to look at why Yamada is eating so much is the fact she's a larger (taller) than average girl in the middle of puberty. Something that gets missed by a lot of people in this episode in particular is the fact that Yamada is in the nurse's office because of menstrual cramps. PMS medication is also good for headaches. It's subtle, but it's there. Part of this episode is focused on highlighting how Ichikawa realizes Yamada is a bit more grown up/mature than the rest of them. Not only does she have a job she cares about, but her injury made her worry about disappointing others, and not her own appearance. Also, I think you guys are stuck on the validation thing for Yamada. Again, using info we've already seen, she doesn't care about people complimenting her good looks. She actually brightens up more when she's complimented for being funny. Just a few things to consider.

Ichikawa finally realizes that the fuzzy emotions he's been feeling mean he likes Yamada and from here it's all about him coming to grips with those feelings and he interacts with her now. We now know Ichikawa was a bit of an unreliable narrator, since formally his winging about wanting to see Yamada killed off, when he finally saw her hurt and bleeding, he couldn't help but chase after her and see if she was OK. Not only that, but he's empathize with her and feeling her emotional pain at failing her responsibilities as if it were his own. He claimed to be sick in the head but the only sickness he was suffering from was just adolescence.
