Yeah, I get that, until this flashback happened I didn't care that much about Ace either. I mostly just cared coz Luffy cared, and I love Luffy. But I think there wasn't really a good place for the flashback before? Like, can you imagine how confusing/anticlimatic it would have been if Marineford got interrupted for 10 episodes to see the kids goof around? Also, I feel like it would have given away that Ace was gonna die way too much, so that twist wouldn't have been nearly as unexpected? So yeah, getting it now works better for me, honestly.
