Because many people died in the Jeju 4.3 Incident, especially many men, so men were rare. That’s why Aesoon’s stepfather, who wasn’t even rich, played around like a bum. Family didn’t even make women study, but made them work hard from a young age. Since many men played around, women worked so hard like that instead. If you’re curious about the Jeju 4.3 Incident, I recommend the book “We Do Not Part” by Han Kang, who recently won the Nobel Prize. The Jeju 4.3 Incident is also a very heartbreaking and important history that koreans shouldn’t forget, just like the other history you’ve seen in movies.

It shows various but strong women with realistic hardship due to patriarchy and misogyny deeply entrenched in society and history. Plus it delves deeply into the relationship between mother and daughter. (Men can also enjoy easily because it’s about life and family.) It’s so special because the drama focused on female narrative deeply that hard to see often. Fun fact!! IU wrote “Shh..” after she got inspired by this drama. The song is about female solidarity throughout the generation like mother-daughter, friendship and role model. (with featuring singers from different generations😉) I recommend you to listen to the song with lyrics again after you finish wlgyt.
