I just realized that this is the only backstory that Luffy paid attention to. Maybe I'm wrong.

2021-11-22 23:34:08 +0000 UTCI think the Sun mark is a symbol for equality. The purpose of the dragon claw was to mark someone as a slave (or owned by Celestial Dragons). However, the Sun mark is to undo that curse by making it so that noone can tell whether or not you were owned by Celestial Dragon.

2021-10-22 17:50:19 +0000 UTCSo it's more than whether or not her people would accept her being a former slave of the Celestial Dragons, if word got out to the World Government then they would send someone to reclaim her and her sisters, and given that she's formidable enough to be made a Warlord they would likely send out an admiral and possibly a couple vice-admirals. Her title wouldn't protect her either as they'd likely strip her Warlord status away, which itself would endanger her people who would be declared pirates once more.
