man I feel old. I was in collage when this originally came out, but it is still top tier. The comedy in this series is spot on. When I saw this reaction pop up in a my feed I was cheering. You should really enjoy this series, it is full of totally wonderful characters and great story and animation.

Interestingly this actually is not a dub. English is the original language for this series ;)

The movement of the bending is based on real world chinese Martial Arts Firebending is based on Northern Shaolin, athletic, offensive, very wide movement and stance. Waterbending is based on Taiji Fist (also known as Tai Chi), body structure, using your opponent energy against them, manipulating human biomechanics. Earthbending is based on Hung gar with low stances, strong rooting to the ground, hard to knock down. Airbending is based on Bagua or circle walking, constant movement without ever stopping, circular motion to generate power, also most elusive of the four styles. This system of combat is not something that came from nowhere, because of the martial art base there is a certain logic to each bending style.

Great to see you reacting to this AJ. It really is a classic that I think everyone should watch at least once. It starts off quite childish but once the larger story comes in to play it deals with issues of prejudice, racism, war, class issues... You name it! It's truly a classic masterpiece of animation and I can't wait to see you react to more 🙌

First off Avatar: The Last Airbender is not an anime but rather is an anime-inspired show. There are a number of shows like that which blur the lines between Anime and other styles of animation, Teen Titans and Code: Lyoko among them. Regardless it is a great show that's well worth your time. Having said that you might want to keep it off YouTube as Viacom doesn't seem to care about Fair Use and YouTube is too spineless to enforce it against them. Secondly, while the source of the ability to manipulate their native element is something that won't be revealed until the sequel series Legend of Korra, the movements used to manipulate them was based by the show's creators around various martial arts. Also, while it's uncertain what prompts who gets it and who doesn't, not everyone born within a certain tribe get the ability to bend their element, and even for those who get the gift there's some who are better at it than others. And just being born with the gift isn't enough, they must be taught how to control it to do so properly and effectively. Since there's no other water-benders in the Southern Water tribe (having been captured or wiped out by the Fire Nation which has been trying to conquer the world for over 100 years) Katara's been teaching herself through experimentation. Then there's the Avatar. While each person with a bending ability can manipulate a single element, only the Avatar is born with the ability to manipulate all four, making him or her the most powerful of all. Of course like any bender the Avatar isn't exactly born with the knowledge but rather must learn the techniques to control those elements, starting with the one of the tribe they were born into then moving on into the next one in the cycle (which was stated in the beginning of the show) until they've mastered all four. There's more I could say on the matter, but It's easier to find out through watching the show (and more fun too). Finally, the creatures might look a little odd to you because the world of Avatar isn't exactly Earth (or at least not our Earth). That's why some of the creatures might look somewhat familiar yet have a feature or three that sets them apart from those that we know. rest assured that you'll see even stranger creatures as the series progresses. Hope we'll see more of it from you.

Yooooo this is a classic and really popular for a reason, even with first time adult viewers. I first watched this show in college and REALLY loved it.

I'd certainly be interested in seeing more reactions for Avatar! As for other suggestions.... Perhaps you'd be interested in an older cartoon (1999) called "Cybersix"? It's based on a comic book and only about 13 episodes so you'd be able to get through it quickly!

seems like info overload lets just let him watch

I definitely look forward to see you react to this show, it was such a big part of my childhood! You'll definitely notice later but a way to differentiate bending from magic in this show is thinking that magic normally creates elements from thin air, that does not happen in this show, they only manipulate what's already there

I'm a huge Avatar The Last Airbender fan- so I'm so happy to see this!! I'm not a big fan of Legend of Korra- I felt like they focused way too much on her romances, portrayed bending like it was less of a spiritual martial arts and more of just a power, overdevelopment of certain characters and little development on other characters, and the ending just felt like it was too sudden and perfect. I didn't dislike Legend of Korra- I loved many things about it- but I feel like it had so much more potential. Regardless, it's a show you'd probably like to watch so I'd recommend it. Just don't go in expecting the same thing as Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Super nice that u react to it now. I really liked it *-*

It's really worth watching Korra imo.

This show came out on February 21st, 2005. So it is 17 years old. (Man, I feel old...) Anyway, if you manage to finish the show, you might want to react to its sequel, The Legend of Korra. I'm not sure. I haven't seen that yet. But I am currently watching Avatar: The Last Airbender myself, and I'm pretty far ahead of you right now. So we'll see about Korra.
